Archaeology Field Director
Reports to: Cultural Resources Department Manager

Job Summary
The Markosky Engineering Group, Inc. is accepting resumes for a full-time, permanent Archaeology Field Director. The Archaeology Field Director will oversee and provide leadership and technical guidance to the Archaeological Field Crew. In addition, the successful candidate will manage the quality and accuracy of all field documentation, will perform archaeological duties in the field and occasionally in the lab. This position will work in close coordination with Archaeological Principal Investigators and will report directly to the Cultural Resources Department Manager.

Responsibilities
? Regularly conduct archaeological duties in the field and occasionally in the lab.
? Oversee the completion of archaeological field investigations under the oversight of Archaeology Principal Investigators.
? Conduct Phase I, II, or III archaeological field surveys that include the preparation of detailed notes, forms, logs, mapping, GPS data, and photographs.
? Conduct Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QAQC reviews) of all paperwork and documentation developed in the field.
? Manage and direct field methods developed in coordination with the Principal Investigator.
? Work with the staff geomorphologist when needed, apply the results of geomorphological survey during the archaeological survey, and be able to identify natural and fill stratigraphy data when geomorphological data is not previously available.
? Must be willing to work with and oversee a field supervisor when available on selected projects.
? Oversee archaeological field members of variable crew sizes.
? Complete field investigations independently for small projects when a crew is not available.?
? Provide leadership and technical guidance to members of the field team.
? Act as the Field Safety Officer, responsible for facilitating tailgate safety discussions and records, as well as maintaining and providing planning information for emergency medical evacuations.
? Must maintain crew productivity.
? Complete artifact analyses and various tasks associated with lab work and curation in the archaeology labs when fieldwork is not ongoing.
? Properly maintain archaeology equipment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
? Adept with the use of GPS units and survey equipment.
? Sufficient knowledge of equipment and archaeological methods to clearly and effectively train the field crew.
? Must be able to recognize historic and pre-contact artifacts when conducting fieldwork.
? Excellent communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
? Must possess a positive attitude and professional demeanor with the ability to work well with others.?

Education/Experience Requirements
? Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, or in Anthropology with a focus in Archaeology.?
? Must show an archaeological field school conducted in North America as part of their training.
? Archaeological coursework focused on North American archaeology is preferable.
? Minimum of five (5) years of experience leading crews as a field supervisor, crew chief, or similar capacity.
? Minimum of five (7) years of experience conducting archaeological fieldwork.
? Preferably has varied experience among different industries, including energy clients, transportation agencies, and/or federal agencies.

General Requirements
? Must possess a current valid driver’s license.
? Be able to pass a drug screening test.
? Must have reliable transportation.

Physical Demands
? Must have the physical ability to work entirely in the field, including walking long distances in various weather conditions through rugged terrain, bend over and squat to inspect the ground surface or excavation holes, to sit or stand for extended periods of time, and lift and carry up to 50 pounds.?

Starting Salary and Benefits:
? $32 per hour as a starting salary.
