About the Role:
As Senior Archaeologist/Principal, you will lead and expand SummitWest’s Cultural Resources Program. You'll manage project teams, develop client relationships, and ensure regulatory compliance on projects statewide. This role combines field expertise with business development responsibilities, offering the opportunity to shape the growth of the Cultural Resources Program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee Cultural Resource (CR) projects and manage CR staff and operations
- Build and maintain client relationships and seek new business opportunities
- Lead technical report preparation (CEQA/NEPA documentation, findings of effect, mitigation plans, etc.)
- Ensure project compliance with CEQA, NEPA, NHPA Section 106, and federal/state regulations
- Mentor junior staff, review technical work, and provide feedback
- Perform QA/QC of project documentation and deliverables
- Oversee archaeological fieldwork, monitoring, testing, and excavations
- Collaborate with regulatory agencies, tribes, and other stakeholders
- Manage project budgets, scopes, and schedules efficiently
- Regular travel for fieldwork and project oversight required
Qualifications:
- PhD or Master’s in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a closely related field
- Meets Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards
- RPA certification (preferred)
- Minimum 10 years CRM experience with 6+ years of field leadership
- Minimum 5 years as Project Manager or Principal Investigator
- Strong technical writing and project management skills
- Familiar with CEQA, NEPA, Section 106, and tribal consultation processes
- Must be based in California
- Valid driver’s license
- Able to travel frequently for project needs
- Must pass SummitWest background check
