We are seeking qualified Field Archaeologists for Phase I cultural resources work on federal contracts in Arkansas and Missouri.?Applications for full-time salaried and part time project-based work are being considered. Salary ranges from $46k-56k/year. Pay varies for part time project-based work depending on location and contract. Pay for federal contract work is based on SCA WD for that location, typically $18-22/hr. plus $5.36/hr. H&W benefit (on federal projects). Lodging and meal stipend are based on 2025 GSA rates for the project location. Lodging is always single occupancy and covered by ERG.

Positions require a minimum of a B.A. in anthropology, archaeology, paleontology, or a related field. Archaeologists will be expected to travel (time paid, no mileage) to the project location on the day fieldwork starts. Fieldwork will consist of pedestrian survey with shovel testing and unit excavation. You must be able to walk 4 to 8 miles a day for survey work, excavate shovel tests (35 cm in diameter and up to 100 cm deep), screen dirt from 10–20 cm levels through a ?" mesh screen, and use hand-held devices to record shovel test depth, soil characteristics and Munsell colors by level, and describe any artifacts found at each level. Typical surveys will involve the documentation of 1 to 4 archaeological sites per project, and the ability to identify and describe pre- and post-nineteenth century artifacts is expected. All field staff will be expected to carry their own measuring tape (metric required), trowels, backpack, water bottles and lunch/snacks. Staff should wear their own clothing appropriate to weather conditions; comfortable hiking boots and long-sleeved shirts/pants are highly recommended. Veterans are encouraged to apply.
