F4 Savannah Needs New Home
From: Kristine Alessio <gattobello@...> Date: May 3, 2011 12:00:28 PM PDT To: Savannah Cat Rescue <savannahcatrescue@...>, savannahcatsavailable@... Subject: Fwd: F4 Savannah Needs New Home The following Savannah is in need of a new home. Unfortunately, her owners are being faced with a situation wherein they are over their cat limit and are being forced to part with many of their cats. Please call 707-429-4928 if you would like to give Shelby a new home. She is not in Rescue yet and we are hoping that we can bypass bringing her into Rescue and fostering her and then adopting her out as one change in homes would be easier than two. Kristine C. Learn how Online pictures are available for 30 days Hi Kristine, Here's a description of Shelby: Shelby is a four-year old, fifteen pound, brown spotted F4 Savannah girl. She lost her home, when her previous family's situation changed. Shelby is a sweet girl, who loves to be involved in whatever her people are doing. She loves to play, and to be petted, and will tolerate being picked up and held for brief periods. Shelby is somewhat shy around other cats, so she would do best either as an only cat, or with one or two non-aggressive cats. If you are interested in adopting Shelby, please email Paul at 22bcatppdesign@... or call 707-429-4928.

F4 Female/Shelby
Hi everyone, Thank you for your interest in Shelby, please understand that she is not officially in Rescue, as was mentioned in the initial emails, we are hoping to avoid her being surrendered to Rescue by placing her directly from her current owners home. As such, we do not know if the current owners will ship her, that is their decision, nor do we have any more pictures, nor can we answer any specific questions on her. She is located in Northern California. I am sure that once she find a new home we will be notified and will be able to announce the same to this list. As far as we know as of today, she is still available. Please email her owners directly with all questions (-: Paul Horn - 22bcatppdesign@... and Linda Horn oldsalt9479@.... Need help with transporting a Savannah from Sonoma, CA to San Diego area, CA
Hi, Savannah Rescue has a lovely but traumatized F2 spayed female in temporary foster care. She was surrendered to rescue but the breeder was contacted and they wish to take their cat back and work with her so that she can find a new pet home hopefully in the future. Rescue loves to support good breeders that wish to take responsibility for their cats so is working on helping them get their cat back! Willow is not a candidate for shipping, and so we need to arrange road transport. If you are located in CA and willing to give some time to this effort, let me know! Email me at brigitte@... . Thanks! Brigitte PS Just a mention to the pet owners out there, if you are having troubles with your cat, please reach out to the breeder. Chances are they want to help! New Foster Yahoogroup - oh and possible need now for a foster home in or near Maine
Hi, Just wanting to announce that we are changing the way we manage our Foster homes for Savannah Rescue. Over the years we have maintained a database of people, requiring them to fill out a lengthy application form that just sits and gets outdated over years when we don't have a cat in that area. Every form has to be entered into that database, which is quite some work for our Secretary, MaryJo. To simplify the process, we've decided to use Yahoogroups again... with a new group created called SV-Rescue-Fosters. Simply click on http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/SV-Rescue-Fosters/ to join. Once joined it is much the same as our general Rescue list where only posts from the moderators (core group of Savannah Rescue: me, Kristine, MaryJo and Nikki) will be approved. It will be used to notify people of a cat needing rescue, with the location and any details we have provided at that time. You would only reply to that post IF you are within reach of that location AND you are able to help at that time. For that that don't check email too often, we will maintain a separate smaller list of phone numbers but the email option is going to be our first resource to find a foster home. We will now try to go through the database and send an invitation directly to all those already registered, this is likely a slow process though... unless MaryJo tells me an easier way to do it soon :-) Additionally, we don't have anyone in our current database in Maine but have a potential Savannah in need in a shelter there. Please let me know if you could get to Westbrook, Maine to pick up a cat there. We are currently waiting on pictures to confirm he is a Savannah. Thanks! Savannah in shelter in Abingdon, VA 2
Hi all, There appears to be a Savannah that was slated for euthanasia when a rescue volunteer at the Animal Defense League of Washington County Inc at Abingdon, VA noticed that he might not be your average domestic and took a second look. She reports that he is very leggy but couldn't easily get pictures of that. He's likely a lower generation Savannah given the lack of good contrast but has a nice face and large ears. They are currently doing vet check, vaccination and testing before he might be released but if anyone was near there and interested then they can contact them directly and go see him on the weekend. The contact is Sigrid Phillips, her email is schwiiz@... and phone is 276-608-4502 . The Animal Defense League of Washington County, Inc. is at 445 Circle Drive Abingdon VA 24210. The cat's name is Kenya, he's friendly and affectionate if a little stressed being in a small cage right now! If nobody adopts him over the weekend we will be looking for a foster home for him next week so that he doesn't have to stay there.. URGENT NEED - NEW HAVEN, CT
An F3 or F4 Savannah male was surrendered in CT, where they are illegal. He is a mess in the shelter environment, scared, hissy and growly, plus being in an illegal state. The shelter is graciously holding onto him until he can be safely moved out of state and given a new home in a legal place. He will most likely take some rehab and quiet time as he has been uprooted from his home and placed in a shelter. This was an owner surrender. If you can help this poor guy, please contact Half Way Home Rescue, Inc. (203) 641-6289 Sharon or (203) 641-7268 Stephanie. Thank you.

Special Needs High Percentage F4 (same serval % as F2) neutered male - Oregon 2
Hi all, Nick is a special needs Savannah currently in Corvallis, OR. He's vision-impaired due to an anesthetic mistake during his neuter. Nick "died" and it took them 45 minutes to revive him and his optic nerves had been damaged severely. The specialist at the time felt he might regain some sight and it does seem that he may see shadows, but in any case cats are amazing in their ability to adapt to handicaps. Nick is now 7 years old and is being surrendered from his third home. Due to the stress that transporting and changing of environment for such a special kitty, the breeder (Arden Morley of Camelottaspots) believes that finding an adoptive home directly from the surrendering home is preferable to transporting him to their home in Arizona. Then him getting adapted to that and having to change environments all over again. We agree with her so are helping look for this very special home. It appears from discussions with his current home that Nick has some litterbox issues, but what is not clear is if this really IS a problem. He's peeing in the box but pooping beside it, so he does not have a problem locating the box. What we believe is happening is some negative interactions with the other kitties means he is not comfortable in this box for a number of reasons. The current home is not able to work with us on changing the situation to see if this improves. Nick is a very human-sociable cat, he loves attention and is leash-trained. What we have been told about him with other cats is that he does not hiss or growl, but after sniffing noses will pounce on the other cats. This has caused issues in his current home although we think he is merely trying to play with the kitties who were not at all interested. He doesn't chase but sits and meows sadly when they run off. We want a home that would be prepared to make adjustments for a blind (or vision-impaired) cat. We'd prefer it is not a super-busy household. Likely it would be best if there were no other cats or else a cat that would be interested in wrestling and playing under initial good supervision. We think it important that the home be "stable" ie having lived in that home for some time and unlikely to have to move anytime soon. Obviously changes are much harder when a kitty is not seeing too well! The adoption fee for Nick is the price of one consultation with Marilyn Krieger (www.thecatcoach.com), a feline behavior therapist, plus one followup consult. This would come to $210. We want the new home to commit to having that consult with Marilyn to help this transition and introduction to a new home. Marilyn has many ideas on helping Nick adjust and also how to play with this kind of cat more effectively. Nick deserves a home that is willing to make it work! Please email us at info@... if you are interested in Nick AND can drive to fetch him in Corvallis, OR or somewhere within 4 hours drive of there (the current home is willing to drive this distance to meet a suitable home). Please do NOT ask us to ship Nick! If you would fly to Oregon and take him back in cabin with you that may be possible but we will NOT ship him cargo. Savannah in Shelter in Green Lake, WI
We've posted this to our Foster list to look for a foster home, but also wanted to alert those within reach of this Savannah available for adoption at the shelter: http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/21838419http:// Hercules is a Savannah surrendered by the owner for undisclosed reasons (owner has history of surrendering pets it seems), along with two Maine Coon buddies he is very attached to. He is scared and shy at the shelter but gentle and easily handled. He is very worried about the dogs at the shelter so the shelter thinks he'd do better in a home without dogs. He's neutered and vaccinated and has had no issues with the litterbox. The shelter is only asking $25 adoption fee to the right home. They'd prefer one that is familiar with the Savannah breed and not just someone thinking he looks pretty (which he does) ... they'd also love if someone took him with one of his Maine Coon buddies (who are reported to be very large cats).... Thanks, Brigitte

Need help transporting two Savannahs from near Pecos, west Texas to Phoenix, AZ
Hi, This is an unusual situation hence an unusual request. There is a pet owner near Pecos, TX that has two F5 Savannah females. He is no longer well enough to be able to offer them adequate care, and he wishes to return them to the breeder to rehome them. Unfortunately, he is not physically able to lift a pet crate, nor get them to an airport to ship back to her, and certainly not able to undertake the long road trip. The breeder is willing to pay all expenses, so we are asking if anyone in that general area could find it in their heart to help out here. If you could get there and crate the cats and coordinate with a ground transportation service, that might be enough. If you could take the cats to an airport to ship back to the breeder that would also work. Just throwing this out there to see if anyone can help! Please email us at info@... if you can help. Blind ~25% Savannah neutered male in Corvallis, Oregon still needs a home
Hi, Nick desperately needs a home that is willing to work with his special needs, preferably one that can travel to Oregon to pick him up. He's a friendly kitty but he is almost totally blind, I believe he can see shadows. So he needs a home that is willing to work with that disability by making things simple for him (in terms of home layout, maybe bells on collars of other pets, he can find the litterbox but sometimes doesn't exactly get all IN the box). Nick wants to play with other animals, he's lived successfully with dogs, but some cats find him a little rough so either he needs a home with no other cats or the other cats need to be able to hold their own. Nick tends to gulp his food, and needs someone to work on that issue. I'm not sure if that is because when living with dogs he had to eat fast or why he's developed the tendency but this is something that is often easily resolved with a specific type of feeding dish or smaller more frequent meals. As you can see from the pics, Nick does very well with children. Please let me know asap if you can help out with this. info@... SPECIAL NEEDS SENIOR F2 GIRL- Las Vegas, NV
Hello all, Meeka is a beautiful golden 9.5 year old girl who is located in Las Vegas, Nevada. She cannot and will not be shipped due to a health issue. Meeka was surrendered by her owner who has five other Savannahs, she was very unhappy with so many cats and was turned in to a vet's office. Upon a health screening, her cardiac ultrasound showed abnormailites which could be indicative of HCM. She does well with one or two other cats, loves people and probably can deal with a dog. Her prospective owner MUST agree in writing to provide her yearly cardiac ultrasounds and also to provide any medications needed if she is diagnosed with HCM at a future date. We believe her to be an F2. If you have a place in your home and in your heart fo Meeka, please email us at info@... and put "Meeka" in the subject line. Again, you must be able to drive to Las Vegas to pick her up, she cannot be shipped. Kristine C. Alessio,Esq. Xooma, F2 spayed female with OCD-related hair loss, available in NC
Hi, Many of you might remember the raid on a Savannah breeder (and also breeder of multiple other breeds including Highlander) in North Carolina, it received a lot of press and also had us scrambling to try and help the cats. We didn't get an awful lot of cooperation from the sheriff's department in Davie County nor the Guilford County Animal Shelter where all the cats (including the Savannahs bar the F1s and the Serval) were placed through. Eventually, they allowed us to take Xooma, an F2 female, that is mother to a number of amazing high percentage F1s including my precious Nina. I believe they let her go because of her hair loss. Xooma has OCD, she overgrooms herself to the point of hair loss. Xooma has been in a foster home for a couple months, and steroid treatment has not helped. She's been wormed and treated for fleas so that is not the cause of the hair loss, and monitoring of her has shown that it is grooming not the hair just falling out. Unfortunately, the foster home is an active breeder and so has not been able to work too individually with Xooma so we feel it is time to find her a better situation. Xooma is very very human friendly, she adores attention and wants to be with people. She has had a slight URI since being there, PCR testing has identified Mycoplasma and she is starting a treatment of doxycycline. At this time she has not been with other cats but we do know from the breeder that Xooma did cohabit with other cats without issue. What we want in a home for Xooma: We prefer a quieter home for Xooma, fewer animals and more time to spend with her is going to be ideal to work on her issues and hopefully resolve her over-grooming. We want a home with willingness to work on her issues, have a good relationship with their vet to be confident that they will be given suggestions and options to try. Diet change could make all the difference for example, food allergy has not been tested. We always prefer a local home...but with Xooma's special needs we might consider shipping for the right home. Please don't just email us asking us how much and when we can ship her, if we do ship it will be because you have convinced us you are the right home. Please email us at info@... and give us your location, and a description of the home you are offering as well as your thoughts on how you would approach Xooma's overgrooming issue. Her adoption fee will be $200, which doesn't cover what we have spent on her. We had to pay Guilford County shelter $350 to be able to take her into Rescue, and have outlayed additional hundreds on testing and treatment. Attached are pics of Xooma, if you cannot see them because you are reading off the website, please change your membership settings to "individual emails" so that you are sent the pictures along with the email. Xooma the overgrooming F2 in NC has found her family
Thank you all for the many wonderful offers of a home for Xooma. We've been so impressed by how many kind souls wanted to take Xooma on and help her with her issues. It was really difficult to make a decision but I think the home we chose is the right one for her. Please keep watching our lists, as we just took four Savannahs from the same shelter (and from the same cattery raid situation).
