402 deck organizers
The Lewmar deck organizers on our 402 are in kind of sad shape. Sheaves are grooved, some of them are frozen, lots of corrosion on the aluminum upper part. Ideally, I’d like to replace those POS with ball bearing organizers from a reputable manufacturer (Lewmar doesn’t count as reputable, as far as I’m concerned) but don’t want to have to fill and drill for a slight mismatch in the bolt pattern. At a minimum, some of the sheaves are worn and need to be replaced… but Lewmar’s web site is a mess and I can’t figure out if those spares exist, or whether there are substitutes.
Have any other 402 owners refurbished or upgraded their deck organizers? Thanks! Dan |
My understanding is that delrin sheaves are better for static loads than bb. Obviously depends on which sheave but organizers are largely static. And small.

My Lewmar block for my mainsheet was in sad shape.? I was able to obtain delrin bearings and thought it would be simple to disassemble and replace, especially after talking to a rigger.?I talked to Lewmar who also said disassembly was possible.? Not so.? It was virtually impossible to completely disassemble and remove old bearings and replace with new.?? When I tried to source a replacement Lewmar was really disappointing on the customer service and product angle and I ultimately went to Harken.? Great bunch there.? Super helpful and accessible, and I'll have a new mainsheet block on my 402 this spring.?? Although my experience was not on deck blocks specifically,?but if you can refit with Harken with the same bolt patterns, that might be the way to go.? You can call them direct.? Customer service was good. On Wed, Mar 19, 2025 at 12:11?AM Dan Grossman via <ldg004=[email protected]> wrote: The Lewmar deck organizers on our 402 are in kind of sad shape. There is a thread on this topic for S402s from Feb ‘21. I ended up going w Spinlock and coring, glassing, drilling and bedding 2 new deck organizers. I had to remove the ceiling strips but not the headliner. They are working great w no signs of wear. Here’s the link:

开云体育Thanks Jim!? I didn't know that OEM
replacements were available, since Lewmar's website is hopeless
and Defender is not quite as bad. Ronstan also makes a ball
bearing block that looks like it will fit, and might be worth
using for the mainsheet.
I visited Sapphire yesterday, and it
turns out that there were only a few sheaves in the port-side deck
organizer that are frozen. I think maybe the best course would be
to just take that one organizer apart and clean it up, and replace
the sheaves that are worn out. The last thing I feel like doing is
coring, filling and re-drilling for complete replacements... as
well as sparing the budget.

Dan I got the part number from Defender. Jim Kerney had purchased them, and I had to call up Defender and have them go through HIS orders to find the number. I doubt I could do that trick with the new and UN-improved Defender but who knows. I bought a complete set of them to have some spares on hand. The price seems to have about doubled since then if memory serves.

开云体育Thanks! I'll keep that option in my
back pocket. I had thought that I could substitute a 1-1/2" sheave
from Schaefer or Ronstan, but from the photos, the organizer
appears to have bushings between the bolt and the sheave, while
the potential replacements are drilled at 7/16" for the bolt. They
were probably trying to keep the sheave from binding... which is
exactly what two of them are doing.
