Re: S362 questions on water tanks and mast j-hook

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Jim is close. The J hook keeps the deck from bowing upwards when you tension the shrouds. Extremely important IMO so if yours is missing replace it pronto. Loosen all your shrouds, tighten the J hook with a modest torque, then retune the shrouds.

If you have a fitting on the mast below deck and a hole in the aft part of the mast ring, Sabre clearly intended to for one to be installed.

Re: S362 questions on water tanks and mast j-hook

Edit to above post:
?
I never was really good at math. ?I believe the post tank is 29 gallons, the bow tank is 49 gallons, for a total of 78 gallons.
?
Also, when not racing, I keep the bow tank filled, and draw from the port tank first. ?The extra weight in the bow helps keep the stern a bit higher,
and avoids marine growth above the waterline in the stern.

Doug,

I have a spare J-Hook from our 38MKI.? Don't ask me why.? I can measure it and take pictures.? Happy to make you a good deal.? I would say "free", but I paid dearly for the second one.

Our 362 does have a J hook. ?My understanding is (and I could be wrong, so someone correct me if I am) that the j-hook should keep the mast in the boat in the case of a rollover/capsize.

Re: Shopping for S28 or S30

Nate, if you're low on options for a 28 (which it seems you are not), contact me off list at elizabeth.rhodes@.... My boat is in Boston.
good luck with the search!

Re: Shopping for S28 or S30

Nate, My S28 is available in Mattapoisett for $5K.
She has new main and jib and my sailmaker just put new windows in the dodger.

I found water and holding tank gaskets at my local hardware store. They are a 3-1/2" i.d. what I didn't realize was pump out, water, and fuel are all different sizes.?

Re: Sabre 402 seacocks

The seacocks that are in the aft lazarette are only for the deck and cockpit scuppers. If you have overboard discharge, that seacock should be accessible via an access port in the shower. You then likely have two under the Q berth. One for the head pick up and one for the fridge water cooling pump. Underneath the head sink, there is a seacock for the sink and shower discharge.?

That should cover all of the seacocks in the back half of the boat. As for your propane locker, it¡¯s not ideal, I agree. I took mine out this offseason and when I reinstalled it, I did it with gasket tape as opposed to a bedding compound. This allows me to get in there a bit easier if I have to.?

Good luck with whatever you¡¯re working on.?

Re: Sabre 402 seacocks

I may be remembering incorrectly, but I believe that the starboard cockpit drain connects to the seacock for the port drain. ?Still not great, but easier than getting over to the exhaust and autopilot ram. ??

I go with the approach Larry Davis suggested.? Also someone on here suggested (remove the pump) using a flex head rathering wrench - works a treat.

Paul,

As you can tell from the replies, this is not an easy task.? I highly recommend replacing with an impeller from Globe.? They are made from a different material and last much longer.? I only replace every three years now instead of every year.??

Re: Mast VHF Coaxial cable

I suggest using RG213 - I have used this on my last boat and installing into my 38.
I would be up in Georgian Bay and get clear signals from Port Huron.
?
I used pool noodles in the bottom half of my mast to reduce slapping inside the mast.
I forgot about that until this thread reminded me.

Head sink drain plumbing

I changed the head joker valve and deep cleaned the head area, pumping the floor rinse water through the shower sump. The pump threw water violently out of the sink drain. The under-sink plumbing is a mess, complete with RTV. Pump is a Jabsco 50880-1000 Shower Sump Pump. There is a bronze check valve 6" above the thru-hull that I assume the PO added to prevent flooding during heel. The back pressure may be the cause of the violence.
?
I recall, but can't find a post 2-3 years ago showing a nice replumbing of this area. Can anyone please point me to this or another solution?
?
Thanks/Ed
