Re: impeller access in Westerbeke 35B 3 in Sabre 362
Hello Paul,
?
I have a 362 and have changed the impeller several times. ?1st, I unscrew the shower door and toss it in the v-berth to get it out of the way.
?
Then I use a small ratcheting wrench (7mm? maybe) to loosen the screws, being careful not to drop any. ?The new impeller kit for the Westerbbeke 35 comes with a few extra screws, just in case you lose one or two. ?You might throw a rag under the raw water pump to catch any screws that fall.
?
The old impeller usually pulls right out. ?If there are any vanes missing from the old impeller, be sure to find them. ?They are usually either in the hose or in the end of the heat exchanger.
?
The impeller kit includes a tube of glycerin for lubrication when installing the new impeller. ?The hardest part is getting the new impeller in place, as you have to bend down two of the rubber vanes. ?I try to get them bent in the direction of rotation of the impeller, but if not, they will straighten out once you turn over the engine for the first time. ?Once the impeller is reinserted into the raw water pump, I carefully get the closest screw started by hand, then use the ratcheting wrench to tighten. ?I tend to do the easiest ones first. ?Get them started by hand. ?Then the furthest screws are the hardest, but with some patience I get them in a few turns by hand, then use the ratcheting wrench. ?Finish tightening the screws in a star pattern using the ratcheting wrench. ?Don't over tighten! ?You don't want to bust off a screw head on the raw water pump. ?When all is done, sure the shower door back on. ?That's usually a two person job. ?All said and done, It's usually a 2 hour process for me.

Hi Earl,
If you have RG-58 now and are replacing it with RG-8X,
they are the same diameter so you should have no trouble
with the replacement. It is very unlikely that the
either of the cables will break regardless of age.
A better coax would be LMR-400 or RG-213, but they are
both more expensive and larger in diameter.

Re: AGM Battery recommendation
Hi Bob - I have a 30-3 Sabre 1986 purchased new. I completely rebuilt and upgraded to a battery box with 450 amps hours and separate staring battery many years ago because of wanting refrigeration etc. I purchased 6Volt AGM batteries because they are easier to handle and plates are 30% thicker than 12V batteries and they last 600-800 cycles.? Two placed in series then another two in series are paralleled to make 450 in house bank and separate 120 V 12 volt starting battery on battery isolator illiminator so starting battery is always fully charged an "hot".? 8 AGM 225 6 volt batteries purchased 2013 and replaced again last summer 2024 from Aims Invertor store for about $900.
They are: AIMS AGM6V225AH
Size 13¡± L x? 7¡± W x 9.0¡± H
Have flat screw in bold terminals on top
Float Voltage 13.2-13.8 V
Charge Voltage 14.4 -14.7 V
Max amps charge of 64 amps
Should be good for 600-800m cycles (50% discharge)
Hope this helps.
Earl Nirvana 1986 30-3? West Bend WI on Lake Michigan.
