Tips for changing to new router / IP provider?

Hello Folks - looking to see if anyone has some tips on the simplest way to update my Shari node for a new router/ IP provider. Thanks, Alan VA3IAH?

Hello Alan,
Two things that you will need to do on your new router or modem combo
unit are: reserve an internal private IP Address within the DHCP
Server settings for your Shari node, and forward a UDP port (default
4569) to the newly reserved IP.

Unfortunately, the procedures on how to do this vary from router or
modem to router or modem. no two manufacturers are the same, and some
even confuse the situation more by providing different wording or
terminology for accomplishing the same things.

However, it looks like you're in Ontario Canada, as am I, so if you're
going with one of the "Big Three", and their provided modem/router
combo units, I should be able to help you.
If you're going with an off-the-shelf router, I, or others on this
list may be able to help you as well.

Please let us know what ISP, and/or which modem/router combo or
stand-alone router you choose to go with, and if I can help, I
certainly will.

Best Regards,
Adam VA3AUM

Easiest way use the same SSID and voila instant reconnect unless your IP is static and the new routers up has a diff subnet

Hello Folks - Thanks Scott KB3JQQ, Robert and Adam VA3AUM for the helpful advice!
Yes - by way of context fibre entered the neighbourhood and I took the plunge with Bell (in Ottawa, Canada) and a Sagecom Giga-hub modem/router installed. The set up work well with 343 Mbps down and 154 Mbps up with a 22ms latency. This was a huge step forward in terms of reliability and speed over my previous provider, but was of course more expensive.
?I got my SHARI node set up by going into my MobaXterm program with my SHARI Pi3U plugged into a Pi3b which was cabled into the new router. I loaded the SSH shell and went to menu item 7 to auto-find the 2.4 gig part of my router and added in the router PW. I then removed the cable as the pi was rebooting and it seemed to work and I was able to connect a few Allstar hubs. I had previously established port forwarding on the initial installation but haven't yet done that with the new set up. I'll see if it keeps working over the next few days, and if it doesn't keep working - I might be back here with a few more questions and more fun troubleshooting!
Appreciate all the thoughtful input. 73, Alan VA3IAH ? ?

Many ISP's -primarily the wireless -cellphone based ISP's are what they call "Double NATed" menaing if you open a UDP port, it does not get you out to the "real world" as you ride in the providers internal network. .. there's the deal.. Echolink required a UDP port. ALLSTAR does not.. Howeve4r with your SHARI you can only connect to? someone else. Someone else cannot connect to you..

So ---for instance if you want to host a room, you can't? but if you want to "surf" the world you can..

An example of Double NATing.. I am rural and can only get wireless out of my QTH.. unless I want DSL at 3-5Mbps. When I was with AT&T (death star logo) and you tried my public address it showed me in Chicago.. I am in Kansas. anytime I went to a store URL, the store said I was in Chicago. googled pizza's and all were Chicago.. Still in Kansas? I now have T-Mobile Home internet (2 years next month Thumbs Up!!) and when I do the same thing at first I was in Dallas Texas and lately Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

I can live with it especially the good (cross fingers) service I have had from T-mobile- 23 months no outage, So please do you due diligence when picking a provider, like your spending the next 2 pay checks on a new HF rig..

In the case of my ISP, they provided the "Modem/router" Combination. It is dual band wifi, and has only two 100baseT ports on it. But I feed one to a 8 port switch for the 4TB file Server, Linux Mint, Widows 7, Windows 10, Hamclock Raspberry pi, Raspberry pi 400, Network printer, RPI SHARI. Then all the cellphones, tablets and TV's in the house are on wifi.?

So hopefully you'll be a happy camper shortly,
Regards for Kansas plains

Hello Larry W8LM - Thank you for your input - I'll test it out and see what I can arrange as it seems from what I can see posted on forums issues relating to ports with my provider and the new equipment may pose a challenge. More learning and trouble shooting fun ahead!
