Re: Why can a SHARI node not connect to a Clearnode?
开云体育Hello brian, There could be a multitude of reasons why the Clearnode is not allowing inbound connections, but the most obvious one that pops into my head is port forwarding. It is near certain that your Clearnode is obtaining a different IP address from your modem/router DHCP server than your other Shari node. If you have not configured port forwarding to the IP address assigned to your Clearnode, inbound connections will not come through. It is? suggested to also use a different port, other than the default of 4569 when you are operating two separate devices with nodes on them. This way, each can have independent port forwarding rules to allow inbound connections, as well as to allow both nodes to operate simultaneously, should this be desired..

Why can a SHARI node not connect to a Clearnode?
Is there some strange setting we are missing?
?
My friend can connect to my node at my house when I have my SHARI connected, but when I replace it with my Clearnode, he cannot connect with his SHARI node.
?
Thanks for reading.

Re: ASL3 WiFi Issue: "WiFi Set Failed"
WH6GTB,
?
That's what you would initially think but per N8EI over on the ASL Community Forum, "ASL3 doesn’t use wpa_supplicant, it uses NetworkManager". He was puzzled that wpa_supplicant was even running/referenced. With everything operating normally now I'm leaving well enough alone. |
Re: ASL3 WiFi Issue: "WiFi Set Failed"
First, thank you to WA3WCO for posting both on the ASL Community forum and here. Your assistance, along with N8EI, was greatly appreciated and ultimately solved this issue.

To WO9B... a fix was provided over on the ASL Community Forum that straightened out my WiFi Manager issue(s). You can see it toward the bottom of . I found the commands suggested weren't quite correct but ones that worked to turn Beta on then off are in .

Re: ASL3 WiFi Issue: "WiFi Set Failed"
I already shared some info on Community a few days ago but I'll add a bit more here. ?There's nothing special about the Pi Appliance image versions. ?They are simply a snapshot of the latest version(s) of Debian, ASL3, and the extras that we bundle together into the appliance. ?If you've installed the v3.0.13 appliance image and regularly perform the "apt update" + "apt upgrade" commands then you'll have the equivalent of the latest Pi image (or later). ?The ASL team spins a new appliance image periodically so that those systems will spend a bit less time performing the initial update/upgrade. |
Re: ASL3 WiFi Issue: "WiFi Set Failed"
Dave, Just a note to let you know I'm in the same boat as you.? Very odd problem, but I'm confident the Devs will get it sorted at some point. It popped up on my 3.0.15 upgrade, but my 3.0.13 node does not have that problem.?? You're not alone!! MJ, WO9B On Mon, Dec 9, 2024 at 12:17?PM Dave via <bgrffdave=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: ASL3 WiFi Issue: "WiFi Set Failed"
I initially thought of that approach but didn't want to disrupt all the other devices on my home network. Rather than upset my home network (or spin up a temporary one) I tested a second card using a couple different versions of the Pi Imager and different ASL3 Pi images... v3.0.14 (same WiFi issues) and v3.0.13 (functioning install with one log error). This suggested it doesn't have anything to do with my network info... but certainly didn't guarantee that detail wasn't playing a part. Traveling over the weekend I managed to get the device connected to a new network using "standard" characters in both the SSID and PW. This didn't solve my issues either so it appears the root cause is elsewhere.
?
It's a bit confusing to learn how many different versions of ASL3 are floating around depending on hardware... image (and older) for Pi based devices, (and older) if you're going the straight Linux route, etc. This makes it challenging to do a deeper dive/comparison into "this/my install works" vs "this/my install doesn't". Unfortunately that's just the nature of projects like this.
?
Surprised my experience seems to be fairly unique. I'll keep working with the folks over on the ASL Community forum trying some different troubleshooting ideas for now. If we can't get this sorted out fairly soon I'll just run my working install based on v3.0.13 and watch for newer versions of the Pi image file(s) to test as time goes by. |
Pi3BU parasitic signal 50KHz off
Hi All, not sure if this has been asked before, but my Pi3BU USB Shari transmits noise 50KHz off the frequency, for example
?
439.100 is is the main freq, but every time it transmits it opens up radios nearby on 439.150 with lots of noise
?
Is this a "known" issue?

Re: ASL3 WiFi Issue: "WiFi Set Failed"
My home SSID doesn't use non-standard characters but its PW does. The strange thing is while the WiFi Manager doesn't show any saved networks, only giving me a "WiFi not set error", everything seems to be working. Poking around with the terminal I see the file for my "prefigured" network is in there. On the road this weekend it accepted the info for my travel router, and worked fine, even though the info didn't appear to save. My other card that was built with v3.0.13 doesn't have these issues. Maybe I'll just fall back to that. |

ASL3 WiFi Issue: "WiFi Set Failed"
Has anyone here seen this issue with WiFi Manager in ASL3?
?
I'm exploring AllStarLink with a SHARI PiHatU build. Didn't run into any issues during a fairly simple assembly. On a Windows 10 PC, using Raspberry Pi Imager v1.9, I burned a new image for a Pi4 4GB using the current ASL3 image download (allstar3-arm64-3.0.15.img.xz). I very carefully followed both the ASL3 and SHARI instructions from start to finish including adding my home WiFi details and region (US) info to the initial install. The new node booted, connected to my home network via WiFi normally, and found no updates. Looking at my ASL3 Web Admin Portal I see two issues...
?
1) My logs show a single error entry: "nl80211: kernel reports: Registration to specific type not supported" (wpa_supplicant). This is interesting as I'm told ASL3 uses it's own WiFi Manager and not
wpa_supplicant so the latter shouldn't be running.
?
2) My WiFi Manager's Configured WiFi Networks section doesn't show my home network "Preconfigured" as it should. Instead I see "WiFi set failed" in red. Further, When I go to add other known WiFi networks it says "successful" even though they don't show as saved.
?
I've posted about this issue over on the AllStarLink Community. After answering a number of questions about my install no solutions have emerged so far. I seem to be able to use my node, connecting/disconnecting to and talking on other nodes, without issue. However, given the intent of this node is to be portable, not being able to reliably add other WiFi networks I often encounter is a non-starter.
?
As a troubleshooting step I tried a re-image with "allstar3-arm64-3.0.15.img.xz"... the same issues arose. I then used a new card and the slightly older "allstar3-arm64-3.0.14.img.xz" file. The node booted, found no updates, and I ended up with the same issues again. I then tried using the slightly older still "allstar3-arm64-3.0.13.img.xz" file. ?The node booted, found no updates, and this time the WiFi manager seems to be working normally. However, I still see the above mentioned error in my log ("nl80211: kernel reports: Registration to specific type not supported" (wpa_supplicant).
?
At this point I welcome any thoughts and/or troubleshooting advice someone might be able to offer. |
Cloning ASL SD Card to Another Node
#Allstar_Setup
Hi all.
I've successfully upgraded my Pi3U node to ASL after watching numerous videos and scanning this group.
?
I now want to upgrade my Pi3V node to ASL. Can I copy my Pi3U SD card and load it on the Pi3V and make needed changes such as node number, sa818-menu, etc. vs. starting from scratch??
Thoughts??
?
Thx 73

开云体育“Sorry I didn't see this sooner.” No worries. It was an audio-only test pattern. ? |
Re: Strange behavior connecting to the echo server 55553
开云体育Yep, someone on 55553 issued a cop,4 to their node and left it there, which sends a continuous 1k tone. I just booted all connections from there. I haven't been around all day. Sorry I didn't see this sooner.

SHARI PiZero services failing
I had my SHARI PiZero working perfectly at home and now that I'm traveling on business, I'm no longer able to connect to the node from my HT. I created a small network and connected to the PiZero and found there are 5 services that are now failing to start:
?
Any thoughts on where I should start with troubleshooting this? I had made changes to my rpt.conf file a while back, but I restored to the original from when I originally deployed my node. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks and 73! N3ILS
