SAE TALK LIST TEST
gurriesm
Hello everyone,
I need your help to see if people are having problems with accessing this list. The lack of activity combined with the fact that James has not been able to access the list has got me concerned. As the List owner, I would like everyone to reply, who has not done so already, to this email keeping the same subject line. You do not have to write anything, just send a reply. I want to make sure everything is ok. Mark, everything seem to be OK at my end. By the way, what's the most I should pay for a used SAE 2600 Amplifier in working condition? Regards, Bob Ludka |
Hello everyone-
I'm having no trouble receiving the messages to my email or accessing the list. I haven't posted anything since I'm not able to be active in this hobby currently. I had a SAE 2400 amp, 8000 tuner, and a preamp/EQ (I forgot which model #) from about 1978-80, back when I lived at home and spent all my money. Shortly after moving out I sold it all and bought a new GAS Grandson and $100 apiece Cizek 3 speakers and used my Advent 300 receiver as a preamp. I still use the Grandson and Cizek's to this day (had them refoamed last year) with a GAS Thalia II preamp and a Sumo Charlie tuner. I watch the ebay auctions for SAE, GAS, Sumo, and Marantz and frequently bookmark interesting items. The Thalia and Charlie came from ebay and are great. I also bought a Denon 45 turntable on ebay. One day I'll replace the Cizek's (their vinyl cabinets and foam grills aren't pretty) but right now I can't afford anything that sounds better. They're a great match with the Grandson. I imagine they'd also work well with a XXXIB. Oh well, window shopping is fun. I'm glad to have a line on how to contact James. I picked up an Ampzilla II cheap last year with one channel out. I may need to send it to the doctor, since I can't seem to get ridof the DC offset on that channel. All for now. You must bear in mind that as of now, virtually all of the SAE and GAS as well as some of the Sumo Gear is at least 20 or more years old. Without service, meaning modernizations and/or upgrading, these things are a problem(s) waiting to happen. Would you drive your car 150,000 miles without ever checking anything? The Ampzilla II has servo conrol in it however, I don't know the vintage of your unit. The subsequent owners of GAS that I sold out to played a lot of games and screwed up and cheapened up the products to a great degree. I guess that's why they went under. As far as the Charlie goes, please understand that while I worked under Dick Sequerra and Sid Smith at Marantz and with Ed Miller at SAE, these were their designs. The Charlie was my first complete design. Even though the vast majority of of Charlie owners seem to be very happy, I must admit that there were several aspects of the design that could have been done better. There is always a learning curve. This is why I offer the upgrade for the Charlie and in addition, if your Charlie is WITHOUT handles, then it was NEVER aligned (that is the final alignment that I personally did to all of them) because when I sold Sumo, I took all of the RF equipment with me as it was my personal gear. And they NEVER replaced any of the gear. After I left, the second shipment of tuners came in and were NOT finally aligned and they were also too cheap to put the handles on. I am sending to your personal e-mail my schedule in case you may be interested in getting your unit(s) serviced. Sincerely, James Bongiorno jefhodge@... wrote: From: jefhodge@... |
