Locked Picketpost Trailhead this evening (Saturday, 11/30)

Weather forecast for this evening has improved so a group of us are tentatively planning to go there for some observing.? The moon near new, so that will be out of the way.? We plan on observing from about 6pm to 10pm.? Since it is a new moon, there will be imagers at the site (likely parking in the North East end of the parking lot).? If you are not there to image, please make sure to park at the West side of the parking lot (see drawings on the ) to ensure we don't bother them.
?
You are welcome to join us.? You don't have to have equipment to join the group, most of the astronomers are happy to show you what they are viewing.
?
Please visit the for driving instructions and a list of objects that will be well positioned for the night.? You can download this list as , , and format if you would like.
?
Make sure to check the for final verification (by 1pm) today just in case the weather takes a turn for the worst, I will post cancellation on that page, not here.
?
Hope to see you there!

Observing Etiquette
  • No White light ¨C Make sure you have a red-beam flashlight. This will preserve you night vision.
  • Back-up Your Vehicle ¨C Park your vehicle so you don¡¯t have to backup when leaving, this will help cut down on the time it takes to leave and minimize lights from your vehicle.
  • Minimize Laser use ¨C It¡¯s okay to use lasers, but use them only briefly, remember there are imagers close by and we don¡¯t want to ruin their exposures.
  • Music/Alcohol ¨C Alcohol is not allowed on the premises; Music is generally frowned upon.
  • Be Kind ¨C This is a great time to meet others; Introduce yourself to your neighbors, but please keep conversations away from politics, religion or other controversial topics.
