Coolant sprayed from under passenger side dash - likley source
Dropped my son off at school and on drive home had sudden gush of coolant followed by steam on the passenger side below the dash. Glad my son was dropped off or he might had been scalded. Anyway, was able to get home and spend yesterday removing carpet and drying the passenger compartment. Before I assume the lotus position and investigate, any ideas of likely cause - this is my 78 S1? Is the weak point hosing or the heater valve? Also do you suspect I could tackle from below or need to access from within the front spare tire area?
Thanks Rob in Monterey - 78 S1 |

开云体育Well, take your pick. Heater, hoses, valve. Maybe a drop light and mirror or phone camera can postpone the Lotus position for initial investigation. There is probably coolant drips there somewhere that you can see. ? Bill ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Rob Bernardino via groups.io ? Hi Rob,
I believe that you will have to attack the problem from the interior, and from what I have read, it takes considerable time and isn't easy.? I have postponed replacement of the heater core in my car until next winter as I am now driving the car four or more days per week.? My car came from Hawaii with the heater's water pipes short-circuited. If you get desperate and want to do the same, pic follows.? If you go this route, be careful of situations when you need immediate defrost.? Good luck! Jeff, 139H |

开云体育Sometimes the easiest answer in an old car is the previous owner.?When I looked under the dash I found a right angle tube installed with no hose clamps. A ticking time bomb which luckily went off near home. Lesson is I need to go over the whole car make sure nothing else was overlooked like this.?
