OMI Re-gear Kits, was OMI N&W A
4
The "extra" gearboxes for the USRA Light 2-8-2's were sold as separate "accessory" parts 6 months or so after the original models came out. There was never a gear or gearbox issue, the original models were just geared differently and some modelers (me among them) felt the gearing was too high. I thought the locomotives tended to run fast and were hard to start without a "'jack-rabbit" effect. OMI made a new gearbox containing different ratio gearing so the model could be retrofitted - if a modeler wished to purchase and install it. I think the gear set sold for 25 or 30 bucks and included a new geared driver. There was nothing whatsoever wrong mechanically with the original gearbox. Interestingly, when Tom Marsh emptied his remaining S inventory, part of it was a couple cases of those lower gear ratio sets, nicely boxed, maybe 4 or 5 dozen. As is often the case, after clamoring for a "product", only a few modelers actually stepped up to buy the lower gearing. Over the ensuing years more of the re-gear kits were used, but a lot of them were soaked up by builders - to get their hands on those gorgeous 63" Code 110 drivers! Regarding the N&W A's; AFAIK there were no issues with them... Asing $250.00 including shipping to the Lower 48 States. Thanks P.S. I will be listing plenty of quality S-scale items in the weeks to come. Please contact me off list if interested at edsauers@... OMI N&W A update
2
My new to me N&W A needs work. I knew that before getting it. The axle gear on the front drive stripped. It was replaced before I got it with the mod3 gear in the screen shot. That was no small job in itself. But now it spins free on the axle. I have yet to deep dive into it. Not sure if more weight was added to my loco but this thing is chunky. The mod3 gear is too small for this loco. It might be HO parts? I think I could get this fixed and it quickly strips again. For what I have into it (traded for other unused stuff) I can¡¯t get hurt on the deal. But somehow I want it to run again without hesitation of it taking a dirt nap. So poking around for some options. Bridge for the MVL
3
I have been stuck on three locations on my layout due to needing to decide what and how to bridge the three locations. I was just goofing around on ebay when I came across this 3D company that prints bridges. It was an O scale listing so I sent a message to the lister asking if a S scale bridge could be printed. He replied that he had one already in his store so I just purchased it. So excited as it is exactly the length I need to bridge the gap. https://www.ebay.com/itm/396401549101?_skw=s+scale&itmmeta=01JWHCCKCK7QKN5H8F9MA0V5SZ&hash=item5c4b5f9f2d:g:S4sAAOSwUEhmygo~ I hope this link works. Have any of you guys heard of this company and his bridges? If so have you installed one. I just watched a YouTube construction video on the bridge and that convinced me to purchase it. -- Mike Swederska Meramec Valley Lines Modeling Mopac equipment in 3/16 https://www.youtube.com/@mikesscale3149 Don't let perfection get in the way of good enough! Overland N&W A

Has anyone heard about or had any gearbox issues with the Overland N&W A? Any stripped gears? I think I heard extra gearboxes were included with some of the Overland USRA locos. Could they be the same? Wat wuz init?

So I found this box on a shelf at the museum, empty. It's the same size box used for passenger car kits from Midgage and Super Scale I've built. But has anyone heard of Star Line (Ft. Worth, TX)? Or that they manufactured S Steel Truss Kits for Midgage (Portsmouth, RI)? Seems like this was a bridge kit, yes? Tommy Lennon

Exacta 80' HW Coach
12
For years I've had a really nice set of etched bronze HW coach sides packed away in a box for one of those "just in case" moments. I rediscovered them last week and, thanks to Peter and the NASG website, learned that they were from a 1947 offered Exacta kit. These are well detailed etched bronze sides/ends (with solder backing) that when combined with an American Models roof and a detailed scratch-built underbody with AM trucks make into a really nice and unique S scale offering. Thanks to BTS, Pre-Size and TrainStuff for these underbody details. The attached photos show these sides and ends pretty well. I still need to paint and add diaphragms to complete the car Bob Hogan

REX Exact Scale

So I got a Gondola from a friend for $20 that wasn¡¯t in its original box. Neither of us could figure out who made it at first. After I did some digging around the internet I found it was made by REX or some of you know them by Putt Trains. The gon is fairly well detailed for its time. Here are some pictures. The last two pictures are from the internet.
