Re: Update on a couple of things!
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHello BobI did not expect to hear about medical concerns.
Best wishes from one of your virtual groupies!
This morning I heard about and saw some bad looking clouds in Saline, Michigan, near Ann Arbor, where we used to live.
Here in western North Carolina, we had 2 3/4 inches, a few days ago, that may or may not have been a byproduct of the hurricane?

Re: Latest Project
Yes, Beryl "barreled" through the west Houston area. For us, the storm itself wasn't too bad. The last hurricane to hit us was Ike in 2008 which did some damage. We had a freak storm hit us in mid-May this year that did most of the property damage, but luckily the house and truck were unscathed in both of this year's event.

The worst part was being stuck in 97F weather with no electricity. Once Beryl passed (mid-Monday afternoon) the winds calmed down, so there was the heat, the humidity, and not much of a breeze. We were without power for three days and 6 hours. After going grocery shopping, I have been catching up on all of the e-mail that came through in the past 4+ days. I'm glad to be able to be back online again! - Peter. On 07/11/2024 06:07 PM, Ron Kemp wrote:

I recently, June 27 to be precise (see the News section's announcement), completed the migration of box cars to their new section in the Product Gallery section. You can either click on "Product Gallery" then click on "Cars" under the Quick Jump sidebar, or scroll down to "Box Car". Or, just follow this link: Once a category of cars has been migrated, they are no longer listed in the "Old Listing". I had hoped this migration would have gone faster, but with all that I have to do (NASG and other), it appears to be a multi-year project. - Peter. On 07/09/2024 03:06 PM, JGG KahnSr wrote:
I went to check the NASG website and couldn't find any box cars for any road; a great puzzlement. --

Re: American Models Boxcars...
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHaving spent a ton of time studying S box cars in general and AM cars specifically, neither of these lettering schemes are ones that match anything that I list on the NASG web site. So, I am/was totally ignorant of them.Rich Gajnak only recently notified me of the 5-car set that was part of the 1989 NASG Convention. He only gave me one photo, and listed the others by their road names. The Wabash one I thought was the one I had already listed on the web site (he told me I already had the photo), so I recently flagged that one as one of the 1989 car set. But, it's paint scheme is different from the one you show, Mark, in your photo. The SP car doesn't match any of the AM SP paint schemes I am aware of. But, if Bill Hawk says he has that one in kit form, then that would mean it was an early AM model back when they only sold kit versions of their box cars. If that's the case, then that is way before the Internet, and only an old AM catalog might show that road number. Mark, I assume they didn't come with their original boxes, correct? That would give us a clue (model #, production year, etc.). - Peter. On 07/09/2024 10:32 AM, Mark Mugnai

Re: Update on a couple of things!
Glad you made through both events! Hope your power is back soon, I know how miserable that can be in heat and humidity.

are several new hoppers coming, I'm not sure I know much about
yours.? Are the grabs formed in place?? or metal inserted?? Same

Re: Today¡¯s S Scale project
Motorand gearbox are installed. Here are a couple pictures of how I do the cup in the ball to the armature of the gearbox and motor. I always kind of referred to this as the ?Bill Lane technique. I do it to all of my builds now and I don¡¯t deal with any cup or ball slippage. When I cut the groove in the armature or the gearbox shaft, I¡¯m also basing how deep I wanted to go on that shaft because once the pin goes into the groove of the shaft, it locks it in, and it cannot slide in or out.

Update on a couple of things!
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýFriends, Apparently the "powers" decided to throw a little
Hurricane party but I wasn't invited---? More about that later!?
I wasn't very concerned but that girl had some different ideas
and landed right here!? Electricity (or lack of) has darkened
and over heated millions so we have lots of steam heat all
around!? But now back to trains--we had just a couple
remaining backed up items? in our vast BBB shipping department that will leave
when we return to the 'thing called normal'--sorry 'bout that,
but this is Texas--we just can't get enough attention.? We were
also happy to send the rest North!? I know, it's illegals one
month then the heavy rains the next! Now about our 'party',? most know that history says New Orleans citizens talk about hurricane parties and the semi-famous drink to have during these events.? In my case I started to have medical problems, so I was headed to the ER on Sunday and remained until yesterday evening--so I caught the storm from the fifth floor--close enough, thank you! So the testing I was due to have was postponed as
computers, the techs that run them and data banks don't work
long on battery power.? Anyway I' had been talking the wrong
pain reliever causing stomach ulcers and difficulty in keeping
everything functioning.? So I've been punctured repeatedly in
both arms for the various meds and draws!? But I'm back!? I hope
to get back upstairs in the trainroom to do some light work in
the next day or two.? Also I did order one of the mini-vacuums I had
mentioned a few days ago.? It's due here today but the Amazon
lock boxes don't have electricity so I'll hold for now--but I've
got a couple of spots needing some sucking power.? So I'm very pleased to being able to talk trains,
as many of us have been physical or virtual friends for a long
time!? In the meantime, I need some tech information or
experiences from anybody who has added a Digitrax PM-74.? My
older similar unit stopped working.? I've found very little
information from Digitrax instructions (I've often had trouble
following their instructions), nor independent sources so far.?

Mine Kits For Sale
Hello, I have a set of Lehigh Valley Models mine buildings that I am selling for a friend. Current list price for all three kits is over $330. I'll take $150. I'm guessing the shipping would be another $20, or I can hand you the boxes in Harrisburg next week. I opened the boxes, and it looks like everything is there. Jamie Bothwell |
Railmaster RS 2/3 kits
OK my caster has now agreed to do just 6 of these kits after a 20 year hiatus. Back c2000 we supplied 100 body only kits to Jack Chapell who used his Curvemaster mechs under them. Lately we have only been casting the RS 1 series. So please lets know if you are interested in purchasing the RS 2/3 one. Once I get orders for say 5, I will proceed. Regards John@... |
