Talking to the Trees
Interesting song. Neil in the early morning laying in bed , thinking about Bob, the Prime of Life song, talking to the trees, and wondering when the earth will change. I think the changes kicked into high gear last November 5. Also, Neil, thanks for speaking out and for supporting Bruce as he speaks out.

Hargus "Pig" Robbins "Epic Timeline Concert"
Caught this tour a few days after this Timeline Concert recording. So glad to hear "Down By The River" again after all these years. Had a pass for the show at Meadowbrook Music Theater in Rochester, Michigan so I watched Grey Riders from the side of the stage and then was first back to talk to Neil with my pal. Neil & I talked for about 15 minutes which started just as the two of us with my pal taking images. We talked a bit about his dad's book and Scott was a pen pal of mine since we'd seen each other so much backstage at shows in Michigan. When we finished the interview he picked up my tape recorder and said, "I'm going to arrange an interview for you with Willie Nelson and if you don't get it published I'll never talk to you again." Then he put the tape recorder down and left for the bus. I looked up and realized there were like forty people standing around us listening. Had to drive to the airport to send my review to Variety and they'd have someone pick it up in New York City. That was back in the day when they had to put each letter, number and space in by hand in the last century. Sure enough, Neil arranged for an interview on Willie's bus about a week later after a show. Got on his bus at 10:30 PM and got off the bus around 2:30 AM. Ended up on the front page of the Detroit Free Press for the afternoon and morning edition of the paper. There was another part of it on the front page of the entertainment section. 1. New album 2
Talking to the Trees. I hope there's a song about talking to trees, I'm an old tree talker. Neil, I don't have a schedule of upcoming shows so I'll just pop in from time to time, like I always have. Yeah, I like it too. I'll look at the moon and think of you, my heart will smile.

Looking for recordings of a couple shows I attended
Rusties, I've been a (mostly) lurker for a long time, first back in the late 90s B&P era and then the past few years after dropping off the list for some time. My favorite Neil show I attended is 1993-08-14 at the Marcus Amphitheatre. He was backed by Booker T and the MGs. I think Soundgarden opened. I had a cassette of that show since the 90s but seem to have lost it during one of life's shufflings. My second favorite Neil show is the 2003-07-16 White River show on the Greendale tour. I've never had a copy of that show. I'm not on Dime or any of the trading sites, so I'm humbly requesting here that someone please share recordings of these shows. Thanks for reading. Peace, Chris K

Happy Birhday to Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere 2
From John Einarson on Facebook: On this date, May 1, 1969, Neil Young released his second solo album, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, which features favorites "Cowgirl in the Sand," "Cinnamon Girl," and "Down by the River." His debut solo album simply entitled Neil Young had been released just four months earlier however it was not a commercial success and Young was displeased with the sound and style of his debut. Having hooked with backing trio, given the name Crazy Horse, and energized by working with them in a back to basics approach, Young quickly recorded his second album with them The resulting sound would define Young for the next five decades, the elongated slow stoned guitar workouts and twin guitar interplay with Danny Whitten on the album, (photo below), grungy distorted guitar tone, country and folk music textures. His image as the patched jean hippie in California became indelibly imprinted on the public conscience. The album peaked at number 34 on the US Billboard 200 during a ninety-eight week chart stay in August 1970 and has been certified platinum by the RIAA. For the wider pop audience the album served as their introduction to Young on the world stage. He would throw in his lot with Crosby, Stills and Nash that summer, raising his profile considerably as well. On the photo cover, Young is shown leaning against a tree with his dog, Winnipeg. The album is on the list of 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. The album contains four songs that became standards in Young's performance repertoire: "Cinnamon Girl", "Down by the River", the title track, and "Cowgirl in the Sand", all of which were written in a single day while Young had a 103 ¡ãF (39.5 ¡ãC) fever. Young's lead vocal track on the song "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" (on the original album) was actually a temporary scratch vocal he sang through the low quality talk-back microphone on the mixing board, with no effects such as reverb. Young liked the stark contrast to the rest of the recording, which became one of his many innovations. In a contemporary review, Bruce Miroff of Rolling Stone wrote a favorable review, describing Young's voice as "perpetually mournful, without being maudlin or pathetic. It hints at a world in which sorrow underlies everything [...] because that world is recognizable to most of us, Young's singing is often strangely moving." Robert Christgau wrote in The Village Voice that "Young is a strange artist and I am not all the way into him yet, but this record is haunting." The original review was printed with a grade of "B+", but Christgau later said he would have changed it to an "A¨C". FYI, the title song "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" is believed to be referencing Young's longing to be back in Manitoba where it's "cool and breezy".

Hi guys Sorry for my personal question, it's probably been discussed before, but I've been away from the group for the past few days. What happened to the vocals being removed from the song "I am a Child"? from Coastal. Mauricio

Coastal
It's been almost a week since I saw Coastal in the theater. I've been reflecting a bit on it. I liked what Daryl Hannah made. This is a film that tells a part of a story that begins with films about Neil from over 50 years ago to now. They all have something to say. Starting approximately with Journey Through The Past and continuing through many many films and videos and up to and including Coastal and more to come hopefully. They all have something to say about an incredible career that I feel privileged to have experienced in somewhat real-time over that span. What a ride it has been. Mike Expecting To Fly

Coastal soundtrack issues? 4
Seen in a comment here (maybe it's copied from elsewhere) Last weeks release of Coastal has now been withdrawn from sale and streaming due to numerous faults. Some tracks have bizarre edits that make no sense, one has a single run through of the chorus and nothing else and best of all another has Neil singing and playing harmonica at the same time which is pretty clever in a solo concert. Neil has apologised on his web site and says it will be fixed. Anyone who has a copy or has one on the way should go to the Greedy Hand store and fill out the Contact Us form at the bottom.Hold on to your receipts and shipping notices for the disc replacement program.

Coastal in Boise 7
Big bunch of maybe 20 of us, maybe more (capacity 153), at the second showing today. Good movie. I really liked the behind the scenes look. Takes a lot of work to put on a show by Neil and his team. Beautiful venues I¡¯ve never been to. I recognized the scenes of the coast highway through there. I still think I recognize his bus driver as the same one I saw multiple times in the seventies stepping out of Pocahontas in Half Moon Bay. Glad to see Neil and Darryl love each other. Good to see Ben enjoying himself. Not sure why she included Neil coming out of the bathroom and zipping up twice but no judgement. ? I think Harvest Time was better, but I think it was because of the history of Harvest and seeing local scenes I recognized in it. Russell Courtenay Solemnity and profundity are sublime in inequity.
