NY & The Chrome Hearts, Portchester
4
Hi all, A few days ago, someone here posted a link to the 9/24/24 Porchester show. I grabbed it, and it is very good - I love “I’m the Ocean” and “Throw your hatred down”! A friend wants this show, but I deleted the email with the link. Could someone please repost that link? Thanks, Frank

Broken Arrow Magazines - UK Offer
2
So, as we all get older, there eventually comes a time when things have to be downsized. I have a collection of Broken Arrow magazines from when I first joined NYAS back in the days when Alan Jenkins was the editor, through to when it finished and all closed down. They are consecutive from #46 through to #134. At the time it was great fun reading them every 3 months as they arrived in the mail but I have to admit they haven't even seen seen the light of day in the 10 years since I retired. Neil nostalgia makes me very reluctant to just take them to the tip so if any UK Rust List members within striking distance of Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire would like them then contact me off list ASAP and let's see what can be organised. Cheers Ron

Hello all, I hope this note finds everyone safe and well. I was curious if anyone had the video to this webcast? I downloaded it from somewhere, but I don't seem to have it anymore. It was a beautiful multi cam video of the 2hr set. It contains one of my favorite versions of "Like An Inca". thanks in advance to anyone that can help. all my best, rustintampa (Eric Baxter)

Archives III thoughts
2
Here's my impressions of the Archives 3 so far. I'm already familiar with some of the music on it, so I'll just talk about the stuff that really stands out to me. Discs 3 - The last track - an alternate version of Lost In Space. This is a personal favorite so it's especially cool to hear a different version of it. Disc 4 - Nicolette and Linda sound so beautiful singing along with Neil. I loved their singing on the albums American Stars n Bars and Comes A Times, so this is a special treat. A reminder of how much I love hearing them and shines a new light on the songs. Disc 5 - The Ducks sound like a very soulful, spirited bar band that I'd stumble across by accident when going on a road trip. I like the equitable way this disc is made, with all the members contributing a song, a couple instrumentals, and a few Neil songs. There's something very good-natured and fun about this. They all seem to be in a friendly, welcoming mood. Disc 6 - Similar to Disc 4 in that I hear fresh takes on songs I'm familiar with. Goin' Back and (another alternate version of) Lost In Space stand out. Also, another version of the beloved song Peace Of Mind (there's also an alternate version on disc 4). Disc 7 - Hearing Nicolette and Neil singing together is just such a beautiful thing. The gentle way she harmonizes with him. In a way, this box set is a tribute to her. Discs 8 and 9 - Seeing and hearing Neil in a solo format has a certain purity to it. I especially love Shots, which is much different than the Reactor version. More sensitive. Out Of My Mind sounds particularly good too. His earlier songs have a more "heart on my sleeve" quality to me than his later ones. Disc 10 - Bright Sunny Day has a certain brightness and optimism to it. And a gentle kind of quality too. Recorded around the time of Rust Never Sleeps, but sounds very different to me than any of the songs from that album. Dics 11 - Winter Winds (which I could see appearing on Hawks and Doves, which was recorded around the same time), Sunny Inside (which has a Booker T. and the MG's vibe) and Get Up are all interesting. Get Up was recorded around the same time as Reactor, but sounds less rigid than those songs. Disc 12 - To me, this has some of the most interesting stuff on the whole collection. Songs that were recorded around the same time as the non-computerized songs on Trans. Rainin' In Paradise, Love Hotel and Johnny are especially memorable to me. The non-computer songs on Trans were great, and I was always curious to hear other songs from this period. Disc 13 - This disc is called "Evolution" and that's an appropriate title. This one goes all over the place stylistically, but Neil's sensibillity runs through all of it. Some country, some 50's music (which I've come to appreciate more over the years) and the stuff I like the most: alternate versions of I Got A Problem and Hard Luck Stories. I loved these songs on the Landing On Water album and it's nice to hear them again, with Neil playing all the instruments. Disc 14 - Live at the Boarding House with Crazy Horse. At first, this almost seems too hard-edged, but once he gets to Violent Side and I Got A Problem, it gets into this unique groove that's really cool. I can just imagine being in the audience at this. The long version of Touch The Night at the very end is especially good. Disc 15 - Neil's country stuff is something that's gotten more interesting to me over the years. On this disc, I especially like Misfits (Dakota), Grey Riders and Interstate. It's an interesting period, because Neil's earlier music had something of a country music quality, but to hear him embrace that style whole-heartedly is something else entirely. He really has a good groove going with his entire band. Spooner, Rufus, etc. He lets all the players shine. Disc 16 - The last few songs on this are particularly interesting. Road Of Plenty, which has the same music as the song Eldorado. Similar to that song, the lyrics tell a story which unfolds like a movie. And alternate versions of We Never Danced and When Your Lonely Heart Breaks. On the Life alb

Comes A Time on Vinyl

Would be grateful for advice on best version of CAT on vinyl. I would think the Neil remastered NYA release from 2017—but would like to confirm if that’s the best among the vinyl enthusiasts on this list and if so what is the desired catalogue number, first press of that remaster? Much appreciated. Lee

Lucinda Williams/Mike Campbell some NC
3
Went to a fantastic show last night in Mesa, AZ. Lucinda was the headliner and the opener in this unique show. She came out with her band with a full set to open. I am happy to report that her vocals are fantastic. She is a very engaging performer and is very friendly and coherent. Post stroke, she does need some help moving around the stage and she doesn't play instruments but she has a fantastic band including her long-time fellow musician Doug Pettibone. After Lucinda's set, Mike Campbell and his band the Dirty Knobs came out and did about an hour set. Mike has really stepped up. He has his own originals. He's a pretty good vocalist. Very entertaining set. Then Lucinda and Doug Pettibone joined in for a 3rd set. They did a combination of Lucinda classics, some Heartbreakers songs (we miss you Tom Petty) and some Mike Campbell originals. Great experience! The NC: at the end of Lucinda's first set, she closed with a very moving, very inspired Rockin' In The Free World. Everyone in the audience was on their feet singing along. It was downright incredible. Mike Expecting To Fly

Just wondering if anyone has managed to somehow download each of the 17 individual album covers from Volume III and could maybe share as JPEG’s? Ron

yesterday
Yesterday there was a red-tailed hawk on a tree branch just a few feet from our house, looking right at me. I thought, oh...this is such a good omen! I watched it till it flew away. This happened just after I'd discovered and listened to Neil's Farm Aid set. ~I never believed in much but I believed in you~

Farm Aid
I caught part of Willie's set and today I listened to a video of Neil and the Chrome Hearts from Farm Aid. My husband heard part of it and said "very few people can touch a heart the way Neil can!" So true. The band sounds great. Drop by Shakey!

Two new unreleased songs on NYA
3
I'm not on FB but this has been sent to me from someone who is on there: Down By The River and Singer Without A Song outtakes Neil has slipped a couple of nice outtakes into NYA without telling anyone yet. There is a massive Down By The River by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young from the Portland OR show, Feb 2, 2000, of the CSNY2000 North American Tour. Neil and Stills trade some great guitar work. 12:46 and a must listen! Then there is a preview track from the forthcoming Alchemy project, the so far unreleased song Singer Without A Song, recorded during tour rehearsals at S.I.R. New York, dated Sep 25. 2012, with the Horse of course. Neil has added the note pictured. I have added the URLs so you can find then easily, but you can also find them well hidden on the Timeline! On the app, just search for the song title in the Search. Happy listening! https://neilyoungarchives.com/info-card?track=t2000_0202_01 https://neilyoungarchives.com/info-card?track=t2012_0925_01 Andrew Leeds, UK
