Yahoo! Nice work guys
Nice work by somebody! Now I'm hooked up via Yahoo to web only Rust and it's working fine! I don't like to be picky, but the colour scheme on my screen sucks - brown background and green messages. (sorry if this is official Rust colour scheme!) I guess this is changable(?). Thanks for keeping us going, somehow... Nick Birch

ASCAP mystery Neil songs
<<Punkdavid asked about the ASCAP songs: It's So Hard To Wait--This is actually a Richie Furay/Buffalo Springfield song that Neil(according to Richie) wrote one line of--the credit goes to both, so it's registered under Neil as well. ... What Are Their Names--This is a collectively written song (David Crosby/Neil/I think Garcia and several members of Airplane) that appears on 'If I Could Only Remember My Name'.

tambourine in Neil songs? 4
Has Neil ever used a tambourine in any of his songs? I love the sound of a tambourine sometimes, but don't recall ever hearing it in a Neil Young tune. ===== Left For Dead __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Subject: CSNY Prices
hello rusties & rustinettes, following the debate about the prices for the concerts i found this passage in "ghost on the road": .... as there where rumblings in the press regarding ticket prices for the concerts - Crosby was inclined to agree that a top price of 10$ for seats at the Met Center was "outrageous" so why complain here in the list, write to your favourite musician :-) have a nice day alexander NEIL YOUNG - If hes too loud, you are too old! -- you can find my actual tradelist at: http://buerger.metropolis.de/stormy_fryday/tradelist.txt

the transition.....
is most impresive. hell, i've received 2 topicana digest's since i recived yahoo 1. i can imagine receiving topicana digest 5500 a few years from now.....finally unplugged or dislodged after a serious blockage. i did get tics for dc...it will be a first for me to see stills and young on the same stage. a few good points about this upcoming extravaganza.......too busy rehearsing to do leno......no new product to promote.......the backing band....jeez....the backing band. booker t and duck dunn and al greens former drummer holed up with csny rehearsing......the more i think about it, the more i like it.... and i feel, for what its worth, to give props to the re*act*or's efforts on making this cyber change as painless as it has been. amazing. heres to hoping yahoo works....i liked the format of the first digest. sparker im standing in my line

Brian Wilson shows in London (great!) Any recordings?
Hello surfing Rusties Did anyone get a recording of Brian's London show(s)? My camcorder was (temporarily) taken away on Monday night so I failed, but in the process met up briefly with Brian as he was leaving the rear exit at Royal Festival Hall . A personal Brian 'smile', hello and wave will be treasured, even if I can't get a recording! I have Smile (1 and 2 CD versions) if anyone wants to trade for the London Brian Wilson show. BTW, what does Neil's 1st Reprise hit (Lonely Surfer) sound like? Didn't know he was into this stuff (apart from LMYR song). Thanks, Nick

Web only service on Yahoo? 2
Sounds like Topica is no longer supporting Rust (?) What do I need to do to switch over to web only Rust membership on Yahoo? I haven't received any Yahoo Rust digests yet either. BTW Brian Wilson in London was great! The whole of Pet Sounds was done onstage with a superb10- piece band and singers. Long May He Run! Nick

AOTW - Rust Never Sleeps/Live Rust
Rust never Sleeps shows examples of Neil builing on previous ideas and concepts. From Time Fades Away he got the idea of presenting a live album of all new songs. Only he didn't have enough, so he drafted in some old studio recordings too. Rather than the warts and all presentation of TFA though, Neil overdubbed and sprinkled fairy dust on the live recordings - he even mixed out the crowd noise. Here he built on previous expreiments like the unreleased Stringman from Chrome Dreams and CSNY's Pushed It Over The End which proved you could overdub onto live recordings in an artistic rather than a duplicitous manner. From American Stars 'n Bars he took the idea of 2 contrasting vinyl sides. Here it's acoustic/electric. It also works much better than the schitzophrenic AS'nB did. Neil liked the idea so much, he was to try it yet again. From the Tonight's The Night tour and album he developed the idea of repeating a key song in a single show and album. From both TTN and AS'nB he continued the tradition of mixing new and old recordings to produce a set of songs he was happy with as an album. Neil also took the unusual step of releasing a companion double live album to reflect the entire shows of this period. He didn't include all of the new material, but he did include almost all of the rest of the songs from the 1978 Crazy Horse tour. RUST NEVER SLEEPS My My Hey Hey - I prefer this acoustic version of Neil's anthem, but must admit to not being especially keen on the lyrics. Thrasher - the highlight of the acoustic side. The tune was pinched from the half-baked Evening Coconut song he'd played with Stills in '76, but this multi-level journey through the mind of Neil is much better. Featuring unmistakable sideswipes at CSN which must have stung! Ride My Llama - great song and great example of how to artfully overdub onto a live track. The lyrics tread the tightrope between deep and incredibly silly but Neil somehow manages to pull this off. The song was originally tried out at the Zuma/Chrome Dreams sessions of 1975. Pocahontas - in which Neil overdubs onto the old studio recordings too. And improves it - his added guitar and vocal help give some sonic variety to this Chrome Dreams recording which it had been somewhat lacking. A classic song and performance. A fine example of Neil's 'time travel' style in which whole centuries disappear mid verse. Sail Away - a fine song but I totally agree with Charlie K - it belongs on Comes A Time (it was recorded at those sessions) and Captain Kennedy would have fitted way better here. Don't ignore Sail Away though - add it to a tape of Neil's country songs and kick back 'n' grin! Powderfinger - the main reason I'm glad Chrome Dreams never happened is that we may not have ever have gotten this scorching live electric Powderfinger! The earlier acoustic version sounds like nothing more than a demo after you've heard this. Undoubtedly the highlight of the electric side. Anyone understand those lyrics? Joke! Joke! 8<} Welfare Mothers - as dumbass songs go, this isn't so bad! The Weld version is much funnier though. Sedan Delivery - the arrangement fucks the song up IMO. I much prefer the Chrome Dreams version. Lyrically it's a monster though! Hey Hey My My - I'm sorry but I don't enjoy this sonically or as a song. It sounded great at Euro '01, but I'm just not a Hey Hey My My fan. In fact I find the electric side quite disappointing (especially after all the hype my friends gave it). If I want electric Horse from '78, I tend to turn to..... LIVE RUST What a great album! What a show! What a concept! What great music! Highlights for me include Comes A Time, When You Dance (rocks like a mofo!), The Loner, Powderfinger, Cortez and Hurricane. This is ALWAYS in the car! I keep meaning to make myself the ultimate Rust compilation by editing in Thrasher, Ride My Llama and Welfare Mothers to the Live Rust album and maybe replacing the the LR versions of Powderfinger, Sedan Delivery and Hey Hey My My with the RNS ones if I prefer them..... (Want more of the same? Check out the Rust tour version of Let's G

Attention Victoria A
Victoria, my reply to you bounced and I was accused of spamming by your webmaster. Don't worry, I took appropriate action. Sorry Rust for the bandwith spillage. Joost, I am a child -------- Oorspronkelijk bericht -------- Hi Victoria, Yes, next month I will be celebrating 8 years on Rust, pretty much continually (only unsubbed for holidays 'n' stuff). I guess that makes me an old fart. <old creakly voice>I have indeed mailed with Dan Farmer and have posted to rust@...!</old creaky voice> Yes, a spooky coincidence, though it was thirty-ONE years to the day, not thirty... ;-) Thanks for offering it up, it's a really nice gem. Powderfinger Suicude? NAH!
PunkDavid typed... I'm sorry, but if the character in Powderfinger killed himself in the face of the approaching boat, then he is a big fat LOSER, and I don't like that song anymore. To which I reply: I thought this for a while too. But I've thought about it more deeply recently and I don't think it was suicide. He raised his rifle to his eye to take a shot at somebody else, but he got shot first IMO. This was brought up recently during one of the AOTW discussions if my memory serves me right. AOTW -- RNS -- Powderfinger
This debate seems to come along every year or so but I felt compelled to add my two cents worth. There is no way the narrator in Powderfinger kills himself. Until Neil himself says differently, I will take this opinion to the grave. Keith NP: Me Gustus Tu / Manu Chao

Neil Font for MAC
Larry wrote Hi everyone. I would like to thank those who responded to my message but there was one problem. I forgot to ask for the Neil font for MAC. Can anyone help me out??? Sorry I missed this thread Win TrueType fonts can simply be converted to Mac TrueType format with an application called TTConverter 1.5. An amazing program from 1993 (!) with a size of 49 k and IT WORKS, even under OS 9 (not sure about OSX). Can you please inform me about the proposed "Neil fonts" ... cheers -widu
