Neil Young In Berlin blu ray

 

Finally watched this and here's some thoughts:

Ben Keith really shreds on the steel guitar on Little Thing Called Love. I always loved it on the Trans album, but it gets a whole new dimension live.
?
Nils Lofgren does some great interpretive kind of dancing in Transformer Man.?
?
I didn't realize that Nils and Neil trade off on the lead vocals on some of the computerized songs. I had always assumed it was Neil doing all of it.
?
It's a real treat to see Bruce Palmer. He has this amused, Peter Tork kind of vibe.?

Correction: Ben plays slide guitar on Little Thing Called Love. He plays steel guitar elsewhere.

Also, Joe Lala adds a lot on congas.?

Agree Ian… it’s one of my favorites videos. And, as I’ve said periodically on Rust through the years, my all-time favorite LAH. ?When Neil struggles with his new wave tie, interfering with his guitar, it seems to propel him into the stratosphere. ?
And if all those first songs weren’t enough, we get “Berlin” - an instant classic. ?

My first Neil tour where I got to one of the Wembley Arena gigs up in row ZZ. Trans is special for me too.

The thing I remember was a section of the crowd booing whenever Neil & Nils strapped on the vocoder mics. That was the point when I thought, Neil is the real deal & this is brilliant and been here ever since.

It also started a long appreciation of Nils, who I finally met a few years back on one of his frequent UK tours. He's a fine songwriter in his own right - like "You", "Keith Don't Go", "Frankie Hang On" and his recent Mountains release is like a companion piece to Barn.

Trans tour in Europe was my irst tour, loved Neil?s music since mid-70ies, but I must say I went to the concert in Cologne only because I very much enjoyed Nils? performance at ROCKPALAST, the famous German tv show starting in 1977. Nils played there in Oct 1979, fantastic show... check that dvd !!!
