If it wasn't for bad luck.............

Driving to work today and happened to have the radio on to the local classic
dreck station when the dj's announced they were giving away 1st row tickets
to Tuesday's CSNY show to the 25th caller if they could name the song they
were about to play. I hit the call button at the first note (Pre-Road Downs)
- busy. Keep trying and suddenly it's ringing! I get thru!!!! Neil's gonna
sweat on me!!!!!!!!!!!

I was caller 24...............

***it's all illusion anyway***

<< I once called in to win tickets to see the Stones . . . You had to be
caller 106 . . Ten minutes of manually dialing the number and I got through
only to find out I was caller 105. >>

Wow, that's really weird. I tried for the same contest. Dialed the number
once and WAS caller 106!

Had a great time!!! <G>

I feel your pain. I once called in to win tickets to see the Stones in
Atlantic city, plus a limo ride to and from the show, a room at the
Trump Plaza, and a wad of spending money. You had to be caller 106. I
was driving when the song came on, so I pulled over and called from a
pay phone. Ten minutes of manually dialing the number and I got through
only to find out I was caller 105. It still hurts.

It's not all bad luck... In the spring of '83 I was living in San Diego,
called in to KGB and won tickets to see Sammy Hagar, with Night Ranger
opening, at the LA Forum. That was when "I can't drive 55" was still a
favorite of mine, along with 3 Lock Box. No limo, just a busload of other
winners, and my 8 month pregnant wife. My kid's a rocker. Shoulda took him
to see Neil in vitro though (hope I used that term correctly), he didn't get
that gene.

Also, a few years later KGB was giving a way a couple Toyota 4x4's. My wife
called in and won a key to try to start one of them, didn't fit though.

Once though, I was trying to be the "nth" caller and in my haste dialed up
the wrong station. I didn't realize my mistake til the dj answered and I got
a little flustered. Me, in a stupid voice: "Uh...could you play some
Hendrix?" I was "that guy".

So sorry to hear of your bad luck Sheila! I've had a little luck with these
Radio giveaways. Many years ago, I won tickets for a WHO show at the Cotton
Bowl. Can't remember the year, Billy Squire was touring with them. Then once
I won a key to try and start a new Camaro. It was promoting the car as
classic, winner got a new and a classic version of the Camaro. To qualify
you had to be the ninth caller when the station played a now and then set
from any artist. I qualified on a Neil set, can't remember (seems to be a
recurring problem) the songs, but I was so excited to win with Neil! I
thought it was a omen, it wasn't.
