"Helpless" wins Great Canadian Tune

We did it! :) Helpless beat out all the other songs in the online poll for Great Canadian Tune.

The following article was printed in the Thurs. May 28 edition of the Toronto Star. (It hasn't even been posted online yet, so I kindly asked Bob to re-type it for me below. He's quicker than I am on the keyboard, but I proofread it. :) )

Btw, June 6 is a Saturday so that should make it a bit easier for the most people as possible to attend. I'm going to try to attend myself (unless "real life" interferes). :)

I think we should be proud of our combined efforts. I really think our votes made a positive impact on this happy outsome.

I actually won't be attending the tribute concert at Massey Hall on June 10. My finances have been hit hard with my recent purchases of FITR and the Archives. In any event, I was at the real thing on January 19, 1971. :) (As I may have mentioned once or twice on-list before. ;) )

The lineup of songs at the Songbook event include: "On the Way *Homer??* : )

"When the dream came, I held my breath with my eyes closed
I went insane like Krusty's smoke-ringed hair when the wind blows
Now I won't be back til later on
If I do come back at all
But you know me
I'm Bart's favorite clown..."

Ya know Krusty even looks like that Shakey Pictures logo, doesn't he?
: ) Okay, just teasing the proofreader in you, Sharry.
Great that the song won, I guess but I just can't picture this kind of a mass gathering of folk singing: "Helpless, Helpless." Just the thought of it is kind of, I don't know, can't think of a "word" for it.
"Depressing," maybe?
Okay, just my opinion. I'd have to hear it, of course, before I could say what I really thought.

Me and my son ;Neil' used to watch the Simpson's together when he was young. My niece who is a teacher made her students watch the show then asked them how that weeks show mired society in the past or present day. The episode where Bart switches the church music sheets with ;Inna Godda Davida[sic] was just great TV, my boy got the joke years later.
