Crime in the City

Id hafta say its the one that sold me too. I remember listening to scratched
vinyl come through my speakers and wishing it was harder. and then i heard
weld. I remember wondering if i could get an instrumental version. Crime is
the best song in the catalog.....maybe...but either way its damn good

Hi Dennis,

Crime in the City is one of my top 5 all time Neil
songs. It is absolutely gut-wrenching. As a
fatherless child and someone who has rarely had any
fixed place in the world, it speaks to me very
directly. My favorite version of the song is the
Crazy Horse version, especially from the Weld tour.
As I watched and heard (more like physically FELT) the
music at McNichols arena at Neil & the Horse's show
that night, I remember feeling like I was having a
broken bone rebroken so that it might set
properly....it was ecstatically painful, and somehow
made me feel like I could overcome my own pain. I
appreciate your more literally sociological reading of
the song, which I feel too.....I guess if we feel the
music deeply enough, we are part of all the tragedies
represented in that song.

"Crime in the City" is the song that made me a fan. I had always like stuff from Harvest and RNS, but that song made me become a real listener.

Still one my of favorite songs of any song from everybody I listen to.
