I love it, love to watch and hear Neil sing those type of songs.

The original recording seems to be from a rehearsal/sound check and there seem to be some quiet vocals on it toward the end. I think Neil heard those later and decided such understated vocals made the instrumental tracks more interesting so he dubbed vocals over them later and ?that was what is on the initial releases. Then he changed his mind and probably thought it was not authentic enough because they were also not like that in the film. I actually think they are more interesting like that!

It's been almost a week since I saw Coastal in the theater. I've been reflecting a bit on it. I liked what Daryl Hannah made. This is a film that tells a part of a story that begins with films about Neil from over 50 years ago to now. They all have something to say. Starting approximately with Journey Through The Past and continuing through many many films and videos and up to and including Coastal and more to come hopefully. They all have something to say about an incredible career that I feel privileged to have experienced in somewhat real-time over that span. What a ride it has been.

There has also been extensive discussion on the NYU/Neil Young Unreleased FB group about pretty much every musical segment in the film, the vast majority of which are not on the album.

Even serious online shops like JPC Germany continue to sell the 'withdrawn' album (a CD which a I bought yesterday is shipping right now). Innaresting business idea: Maybe they will sell more copies now declared as 'collectors items for sure' and the associated fuss than with a regular release :)

Whatever you do don’t give up your original release copies! They will become collectors items for sure.
By the way, if you listen to the ‘new’ I Am A Child now you will hear some quiet vocals in the background at the end. I think this is live during the rehearsal and is probably what gave Neil the idea of adding similar vocals later as overdubs to the other instrumental songs to make them ‘more interesting’ but then changed his mind when he realised he was being a little too unauthentic! I actually prefer the versions with overdubs and people should certainly keep their hardcopies if they have them!
A lot of the ‘mistakes’ listed above are not In think the mistakes which are now being corrected. The ‘mistakes’ were the inclusion of the three song versions with later overdubs and the ‘wrong’ version of Love Earth from the 2024 tour.
I actually prefer the original release somehow even if it is not quite so real!?

I notice that in?Barn?and in this new one, there’s a moment where Neil is either finishing or taking a pee.
I don’t know how that’s become a running theme. It brings everything down to a very human level. In?Barn, I’m looking at this gorgeous sunset. The mountains are epic and it’s a pee with a view. It’s a pretty funny contrast, because it pans away from the sunset, and there he is. [laughs]
