230 Stick and BlueTooth Distance - How Far and to What?
I have a 230 Stick on the latest firmware version.
Also an iPad Pro with Antscope for IOS installed. I plan on measuring my impedance / VSWR at the feed point of my large Horizontal Loop Antenna using a banana plug adapter for the wire ends and a BNC to PL-259 adapter to attach the 230 Stick in Bluetooth mode. Before going any further to take down my 4:1 balun and disconnecting the antenna etc, I was wondering just what is the range or distance that the bluetooth from the 230 Stick is to an iPad Pro with Antscope. Does anyone have any in field experience with this? My antenna feed point is 50 feet up above ground. Thanks in Advance, 73 Art W1SWL |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Art, ? I do. I have an AA-230 Zoom and had a borrowed 230 Stick for about a month. ? I was unsatisfied with the range using BT. It seemed to be very stable up to about 8m (abt. 26 ft.), and a bit flaky up to about 10m (33 ft.). ? At the time I was using a Samsung Galaxy S2 tablet with ANDROID-7. I bought a new cell phone, a Google Pixel 6A, with Android 12. In the meantime I have updated to Android 13. I never tried it horizontally. If it stops raining tomorrow, I will try it outside and see. ? 73 ¨C Rick, DJ0IP ? ? ? ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of W1SWL

Unless something changed over the holiday break, iOS won¡¯t connect to the RigExpert devices. Yeah, I know there¡¯s an app, but it doesn¡¯t work. Just look at the reviews on the Apple App Store. You¡¯ll need an android device or Windows laptop capable of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) if you want to use the BT features.?

Hi Brad,
Not sure what model you have...but I've used the RE Stick Pro for a year or so now with both my iPad and iPhone on whatever the current iOS version was. I think the AntScope 2 app might have updated during this period but I can't be sure.
Nonetheless, I have no problems connecting---although there is the random disconnect at times---via Bluetooth. I regularly email my sweep files (either *.ASD or *.s1p) to myself or the ham I'm helping for future reference.
I did? have a nightmare with the A-55 Zoom, Bluetooth Model. It never made any reliable connections on my OS...but I do love the Stick, especially for sweeping antennas up at the height they will live.

Frank, Excellent information.? I didn't realize that iOS worked with any of the RE devices.? I have the AA-3000 ZOOM.? I can definitively say that it doesn't work and this was confirmed by RigExpert Ukraine.? I'm glad to hear the issue with the "Blue" devices doesn't affect the Sticks.? It was a real bummer after dropping so much hard earned $$ to realize that it didn't work as expected and advertised.?? |
