Re: CASE FOR STICK 230 #stick230

Why not use a pelican case? In the states there's a cheaper version of them but the pelican is still not that expensive.

TLDR- electric toothbrush case.?

Large one with space for other stuff,?

Small one with just barely enough room:?

Hello and newbie question, I have a Stick 230:

Can I take just a measurement of a run of coax without the antenna on the other end in order to determine if the coax is good ?

Besides checking the SWR on the antenna, is there a proper way to check the coax as well as jumper coax using the Stick 230 ?

There are three things you can do to quickly check a cable.

  1. Perform an SWR test with a 50 ohm dummy load at the other end of the cable. Should be close to 1.0
  2. Leave the far end of the cable open and measure the Return Loss at the frequency of interest.? Write down this number (in dB).? Short the far end of the cable and repeat the Return Loss measurement.? Add RL(open) and RL(short) together and divide the result by 4.? This will give you the attenuation of the cable in dB
  3. Perform a Time Domain Reflectometer (TDR) measurement using the program AntScope 2.? This will give the length of the cable and any impedance discontinuity (splices, shorts, open cable etc.)? You need to set the velocity factor of the cable you are using in the settings menu of the program. ?

Re: Check Coax Stick 230

Just SWR. It should be a flat 50 ohms across all bands.

Re: Calculate SWR given F, R and X

Yes, I¡¯ve already seen this¡I can certainly depve into the (open) source code for Antscope 2.

I don't think there is such a document available from RigExpert.? Most of their Analyzers are one port Vector network analyzers that use a bridge and a down convertor like the AA-55 Zoom drawing below.? The digitized analog signals are are used to calculate the S11 reflection coefficient.? From their R, X, VSWR are all pretty standard computations as detailed in the document I posted early.? The tools like cable stub, impedance etc. is where they have their own versions developed from VNA theory.? The AntScope 2 software is available as Open Source so if you dig into the code you might find how some of their algorithms work.?

First you have to compute the complex reflection coefficient Gamma in the form a +/-jb

Gamma = (Zl-Zo)/(Zl+Zo)? where Zo is 50+j0? and Zl = R +/- jX

Then you convert gamma from the? rectangular a +/- jb? form to? P@angle polar form.

Then VSWR = (1+P)/(1-P)

It is all described in the attached document with an example...

Hi Alex
I have the same problem that results in my device freezing and the only way I can reset it is to remove the battery or the usb cable. I¡¯m running the latest software and the latest version of Antscope, but I still have the issue.?

what do you recommend?

kind regards?
Will, M0LGW?

Re: Antscope2 Documentation

Hi, maybe this will help, hopefully.

Re: Antscope2 Documentation

The only documentation on Antscope I have is from a .pdf manual dated 2019-03-20
It appears to be from my AA-230 Zoom but the software does not really care about which RigExpert you are using.
I have used Antscope with an AA-600, AA-230zoom bt and my current AA-2000
hope this helps and if you do find an more current manual please let us all know.
