Re: AA-30 Zero Firmware Update problem.

Hello!

We do not recommend using Arduino to update the AA-30 Zero firmware.

Use any USB-to-UART adapter (better based on FTDI chip).

Has anyone else had trouble doing firmware updates on this device via the Uno? Also, what can i do to get it to flash the update or a prior update?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide :)

Dear Roy,

A return loss of 80 dB is a "math joke" as I said.
The real dynamic range of the analyzer lies at the level of 44-50 dB.

Pay attention to the level of return loss reported by Anritsu and Amphenol (leading RF device companies) for their high quality loads:

As you can see, the value is lower than the AA-230 Zoom can provide.

Going from 1.0002 VSWR to 1.016 is quite a difference. Does this mean that my RL measurements can be off by approximately by 38 dB?

Hello Roy,

There is nothing strange about this.

When you perform a calibration, you pass the dummy load parameters to the analyzer as a reference.

And when, after calibration, you measure the parameters of the same load, then the situation turns out when you compare the standard with the standard. Of course, the resulting parameters will be very high.
RL 80 dB is a VSWR equal to 1.0002

Of course, for practical purposes, we absolutely do not need such accuracy.

Regards, Alex

No matter which OSL or 50 ohm load I use for OSL calibration, the measurements are coming back with crazy high values. Using the SWR meter, the return loos reading jumps all over the place. Using an OSL that typically has an RL of 42 to 44 dB, I performed an OSL calibration. In return loss mode the return loss chart max reading was 84 dB at 193 MHz. If I run the same test with the cal turned off I get much much more realistic readings that are fairly similar to what I get using high performance return loss bridge and my spectrum analyzer. Is there something wrong with my unit or could I be doing something wrong??

Re: Bluetooth problems AA-55 Zoom

Here is some more information on this problem for those interested.? I used a Bluetooth Protocol Analyzer to monitor the?
traffic going from my AA-55 Zoom to an Android Tablet.? RigExpert sends the data in formatted ASCII with each line?
containing one frequency and its measured data. The format looks like this 2.420000,53.32,135.94 where the first field is the?
frequency and the second and third are the data.??
?
The Protocol Analyzer time stamps each line of data.? If you look through the attached pdf you can see two times where it?
dropped 11 lines of data.??
?
I repeated the test on my Windows machine to see if the Bluetooth in the Android or the CPU speed was causing the problem.? I?
got the same results in Windows where bursts of multiple lines are being lost.??
?
The next step was to record the data from the AA-55 Zoom when transferring 500 points to AntScope 2 using the USB cable.??
This was error free and no errors were observed in Single or Continuous mode.?
?
For the last test I purchased a small Bluetooth module like the one you see when you open the battery compartment.? I?
connected it to a Serial USB to TTL converter so I could send and receive data using a Windows Program called RealTerm.??
Using this setup RealTerm can "fake" being an AA-55 Zoom and send/receive data to AntScope 2 over a Bluetooth connection.??
When AntScope 2 starts it issues a VER command and a RigExpert product will reply with the model number and the firmware?
date. RealTerm was configured to reply with AA-55 Zoom 120? and then AntScope 2 would be activated.? I setup AntScope 2 to?
request 500 data points.? RealTerm can send files so it was configured to send the 500 data points recorded earlier. AntScope 2 received the data and plotted the results without errors.? This test was repeated multiple times in Single and Continuous mode with no errors.? The speed used was 115,200 baud which is much faster than what the AA-55 appears to use.? It looks like the AA-55 Bluetooth uses 9600 baud.
?
Conclusions?
-----------
?
1. Test were done on two computers: A Windows PC and an Android tablet.? Using the AA-55 Zoom with Bluetooth resulted in?
errors on both which makes Bluetooth option almost unusable.
?
2. Using another Bluetooth module and the RealTerm program to "fake" AA-55 Zoom operation results in error-free data exchange?
with AntScope2 on Windows.? So the problem is not the PC CPU speed, the PC Bluetooth hardware or AntScope.? That leaves the?
AA-55 Zoom Bluetooth hardware or firmware? implementation as the problem.? It is either a faulty Bluetooth module inside my AA-55, a firmware?
buffering problem, insufficient link speed or some other programming issue.?
?
3. RigExpert has been silent on this issue in this group. I wrote to support@... twice and did not get a reply.?I hope this detailed report and the last one I made will get a response and a solution.? It is disappointing to spend money on a product that does not work properly.

Measuring components with a RigExpert Analyzer (updated)

The RigExpert Analyzers work well for measuring antennas but you can also use them to measure components like inductors or capacitors.? What is required is a suitable test jig.? When I want accurate measurements I use? the one shown below.? For less accurate measurements you can use a PL259 to alligator clip cable.
?
It is necessary to calibrate so that the "reference plane" for measurements is at the test jig.? You can calibrate right on the analyzer but I prefer to calibrate using AntScope 2 .? Once calibrated with Short-Open-Load you set the frequency range of interest and make an R +X measurement.? This will give you the Resistance and Reactance versus frequency.? If you use AntScope 2 as you move the mouse along the parameter box will do the conversion to inductance or capacitance.? An example measurement for a 60 pF ceramic capacitor is shown below.? ?I have edited the screenshot to show the parameter box display of resistance and capacitance versus frequency.? Note that the capacitance is changing very little but the resistance is slowly increasing due to to the skin effect.

Dear Mr. Torres,

Windows 10 has very strong protection and is suspicious of software and drivers not approved by Microsoft.

To correctly install the drivers for the TI-5000 interface, you must temporarily disable digital signature verification.
How to do it:

After that, reinstall the drivers.

Re: AA-230 ZOOM Bluetooth

Edited

Hello,?

I have a similar persistent problem (going on for over half a year, also posted on this forum and still with no solution) regarding the AA-230 ZOOM and Bluetooth. In my case phone (Galaxy A70) connects properly using Bluetooth and Antscope runs OK. But the Bluetooth connection is always broken after one measurement is made or at least in 15 seconds after connection. That is very annoying and no FW update nor Antscope update helps.

Also with no solution is the constant SWR measurement which freezes always when the SWR value reduces from higher values through the value of 1.5. AA-230 freezes up and must be turned OFF/ON to be able to use it again.

Is all this pointing to a hardware problem of the AA-230 ZOOM Bluetooth and should be handles as a warranty case?

Regards,
Dejan
