Re: AA-55 Zoom vs. AA-230 Zoom
Bill,
there are are some major differences. 1 - The AA-230 zoom has a smaller hand held format while retaining a visually equal size screen. This makes it even better for go-box and portable operations.? 2 - The AA-230 has an onboard TDR (Time Domain Reflectometer) for finding errors with a coax cable to within about 3/4 of an inch. This feature is NOT included on the 55.? 3 - The AA-230 has the ability to scan at 25 - 500 on screen plotting points as compared to the 55 which only plots up to 100 points per screen.? 4 - The AA-230 uses 4 AAA batteries as opposed to the 55 which uses AA size.? 5 - The AA-230 uses a 16 bit converter for greater accuracy than the 12 bit of the 55. This shows up more obviously when using the coax tools kit.? When you buy your analyzer from RigExpert USA or PNC Engineering () you receive $100 in both operational and technical support via phone, email or live chat window for the life of the analyzer. You also have a direct connection to a US based warranty and non warranty component level service center.? |

I am wondering if there is any significant difference between the 55 and the 230 apart from the frequency range? The 230 manual was first copyrighted in 2015 and the 55 in 2016, so I assume the 55 is newer. According to the RigExpert website, the 230 has a 290x220 display and the 55 has a 320x240 display. I wonder if that is a significant difference? Also, the 230 reference impedances for SWR measurements are 50 and 75 ohms, while for the 55 they are 25, 50, 75, 100, 150, 200, 300, 450, and 600 ohms. Is this capability something one would normally need since we normally want to match to our transmitters, which are normally 50 ohm? |
Re: AA-55 Zoom vs. AA-230 Zoom
开云体育At one time, perhaps even now, the TDR function (fault detection) was better with the AA-230 Zoom. That may have improved with firmware updates but the 55 MHz maximum output frequency is a limiting factor for accurate TDR measurements. I have not recently tried the 55’s TDR functions since I also own the 230 and several other VNAs. ? The AA-55 Zoom has a higher output level.? I mostly use it with open-line feeders and 160m measurements where the output level is an advantage in the presence of strong local AM BC stations.? Both units have great screen resolution with vibrant colors, and long battery life. ? ? Paul, W9AC? ?? ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Bill Combs via groups.io

Re: AA-55 Frequency Measurement ?
Paul, thanks.
?
I am subscribed to David's channel but have not had time to watch his new video yet.
?
As I said, RigExpert analyzers do not have a built-in frequency counter function.
?
Personally, I can advise you to buy such a device:?
?
For $ 10, this is a not bad frequency meter with an upper limit of about 1 GHz.

question Rig Expert Plus interface
开云体育
Hello all,
?????? Been using the Rig Expert Plus for a couple years on different rigs for CW.
Currently using it with an FTDX-9000D on CW and trying to set it up for digital with N1MM+ and MMTTY.
Have it working fine on XMIT for RTTY.
Here is my problem, I cannot seem to receive any decoded messages in the MMTTY window in N1MM+.
I'm using a Rig Expert cable for the FTDX-9000D, checked all cables and connections, everything seems in order.
Based on not seeing any received text in the window with a strong RTTY signal being received, what could be wrong?
Any input appreciated.

We had a very nice NanoVNA presentation at our Zoom club meeting recently and one of the issues the presenter made was that the Antscope2 calibration function didn’t appear to work correctly in his setup using Windows. I tried it on my Mac version and found the same issue, i.e. once begun the calibration never proceeds further. I have no problem doing the calibration with my AA-1400 via the software but the NanoVNAH-4 that both of us are using wouldn’t work. As an aside, at least on my iMac and MacBook Air both running OS High Sierra, actually connecting to both analyzers is really hit and miss. Sometimes the “Connect to NanoVNA” option appears sometimes not; I’ve even had problems getting the AA-1400 to come up in Antscope2…if anyone has any advice on that issue as well it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! 73 - Dino KL?S Update - I inadvertently posted to the old Yahoo Group and Alex was gracious enough to answer me there with info that they are aware that the calibration function is not yet operable with the NanoVNA but they are working on it. I’m repeating my note here in case others may be wondering about it as well. Alex is probably the most responsive customer service rep I know of, thanks so much Alex!!! |

AA-600 purchased from SolidSignal on Amazon back in Feb. 2020. Very little use until recently. Was working fine and without issue (NO stray RF of any sorts) when the unit died. Replaced with fresh batteries and all was well; for a few hours. The unit cut-off while using it and would not turn on. Replaced the batteries again and NO JOY on turning on. While holding the unit I noticed the 3 x Duracell 1.5v AA batteries were dangerously HOT. I immediately pulled them from the unit and allowed to cool as unit was also warm to touch. Disassembled the unit and found nothing burnt destroyed or bad solder joints. Attempted to power the unit again with the same results. Back in June Gigaparts repaired the type N connector. As it had a busted center pin (never loan stuff).?
I know everyone will say send it in for repair, which is what I intend. However, RigExpert states they will not warranty an item purchased from an unauthorized distributor. Anyone have any recommendations or experience dealing with repair? I have yet to contact the SolidSignal folks as of yet but this will be my next step. TIA Byron - KN4PHS |
