USB camera on RPi-4b? 2
Trying to install a USB camera (Nexigo N930AF) and apparently need opencv. I tried to install it, but got confused. I was trying to follow https://raspberrypi-guide.github.io/electronics/using-usb-webcams at Controlling the webcam with Python At https://raspberrypi-guide.github.io/programming/install-opencv.html it seems I have a good version of python3 and pip. However, when I enter the command import cv2 I get this error: >>> import cv2 Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'cv2' >>> All suggestions will be appreciated. What's a good monitor size/resolution for viewing a RSPduo on SDRConnect through a Pi 4b 8Gb w/ 64 bit RPi OS?
I know that the title might be a bit of overkill, but I wanted to short-circuit some tangential replies. I've got may system running OK (given the state of SDRConnect) on my tabletop with a standard monitor, but would like to make it more portable. I want to have a smaller screen but it has to have enough size and resolution to be readable from about 3 4 ft. I'd like to monitor 1090 MHz and the VHF/UHF ham bands from the cab of my truck and within my trailer. Any recommendations? Terry KG0DU

Radioberry from AliExpress 10
Seeking advice on how to shop AliExpress. I am looking for a Radioberry v2.0. There appears to be no uniform price. They vary from $80 - $150. The descriptions for the top and bottom priced units appear to be similar but not copies. Both indicate the same installed hardware. https://www.aliexpress.us/w/wholesale-radioberry-v2.0-sdr.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.search.0 Any advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA N7CHS

Aliexpress (Was: Re: [RaspberryPi-4-HamRadio] EDATEC Industrialized Raspberry RPi-5) 5
I don't order from Aliexpress vendors who don't accept PayPal. In fact, I endeavor to follow that policy for all on-line purchases. RPI5 with Raspian OS on Pineberry Pi SSD HAT 4
I recently received the Pineberry Pi SSD HATs. I have mounted the top HAT on my RPI5 with a Samsung 256GB 2042 NVMe SSD. Following PineberryPis instructions I made the NVMe drive recognizable by the OS (/boot/config.txt) and modified the EEPROM boot order to boot from the SSD. I used the Raspian DiskImager software to copy my SD Card to the SSD. It all was painless and now my RPI5 boots from the SSD with Raspian Bookworm. The difficult part was finding / modifying a case to put it in - I used a Geekworm case and broke off a segment to allow the SSD HAT standoff to mount to the RPI behind the USB sockets. The HAT is a well designed great product. Merry Christmas to all. Edd - KD5M

Aurga Viewer
Has anyone tried using an Aurga Viewer with a headless RPI? It looks like it might be useful when working on a local area network that you don't have full access to, like in a hotel. An example of this would be traveling with an Allstar node.

RPi-4 w/Bookworm & Samsung Smart Monitor; Anyone? 3
Just bought a Samsung M50C Smart Monitor, but I'm having trouble getting it to work on my RPi-4b w/Bookworm. The set up screen does not show a Linux option, only Windows PC and Apple and some other Apt like thing. I'm not able to get the sound working on the monitor, but the video works. Anyone try using one of these monitors? Any advice? John, W0GN

Cannot Access RPi 25
I've got a Raspberry Pi that just runs HamClock (for now). It accesses the internet without problem. However, I cannot access it from my normal desktop or any other computer. It shows up as a connected device in my router, and I have the correct IP address. From the RPi, I can ping the router fine, but anything else in the network comes back as Destination Unreachable. It can ssh to itself, but trying to ssh to anything else returns No Route To Host. When I try to ssh or ping it from any other computer on the network, I get the same results. It has been maybe six months or more since I tried to ssh into it and it worked fine then. Nothing has changed, it basically hasn't been touched for months. Any ideas? -- 73, Michael WA7SKG "Any day you do not learn one new thing is a wasted day."

Any PI mag non-subscriber receive an 8gb Pi-5 yet? 40

RPi-5 & NVMe SSD selection 7
I'm trying to find a lower cost NVMe SSD to use on my yet to be received Raspberry Pi-5. QUESTION: Will gen 3 drives support the RPi guaranteed Pi-5 gen 2 support? e.g.; Is gen 3 backward compatible to gen 2? Also, any recommended NVMeM.2 drives for Rpi-5? I hope to use the Pineberry Pi circuit board for an interface. John

Direwolf and Xastir on RPI5 using OS Bookworm and X11 desktop 10
RPI5 Updated OS Bookworm with Desktop X11 I have successfully built from src and installed Direwolf 1.7 using instructions found here - section 24 - https://www.trinityos.com/HAM/CentosDigitalModes/RPi/rpi-setup.html. ( https://www.trinityos.com/HAM/CentosDigitalModes/RPi/rpi4-setup.html#24.compile-direwolf ) Thanks David KI6ZHD. I have sucessfully built from src and installed Xastir 2.2.1 using instructions found here - HowTo:Raspbian - XastirWiki ( https://xastir.org/index.php/HowTo:Raspbian ) Both direwolf and Xastir appear to run correctly. I am unable to get the AX25 system to work thus far - I get a "permission denied" error when it attempts to install one KISS connection on PTY port. Edd - KD5M

RPI5 / Bookworm / WSJTX / Icom IC705 2
I have WSJTX 2.6.1 and JTDX 2.2.159 installed (via sudo apt install ...) and working on my RPI5 with an IC7300. I am unable to get either to connect to an Icom IC705 via USB (115200, N 8 2). The RPI5 sees the IC705 ports (ttyACM0 and ttyACM1) and the TI Burr-Brown audio codec - I get communications errors or protocol errors. The error messages displayed by WSJTX show that the RPI5 / software is reading some of the called values (VFO frequency) but not completing the connection. I also see the IC705 change frequency as it is polled by the software. Has anyone been successful in connecting to an IC705? Or is there an error in libhamlib for the armhf / linux package for the IC705? The IC705 works without difficulty with the same software settings when connected to my Win10 desktop. Any help will be appreciated. Edd - KD5M

Raspbian Bookworm. 10
Based on several questions I have received since my post about Raspbian Bookworm, I'm not sure folks have read about how the Raspbian OS has changed. You can read about it here -- Bookworm — the new version of Raspberry Pi OS - Raspberry Pi Or here -- Raspberry Pi 5 Compatible OS 'Bookworm' Officially Released | Tom's Hardware (tomshardware.com) The Desktop is different from prior versions. The Network manager is different from prior versions and requires a different remote access client. Python module installation is different from prior versions. The most telling comment I have read is that it would be unwise to attempt to upgrade a prior OS version (Bullseye or earlier) to OS Bookworm - it will most likely fail. Instead you need to create a new image using Bookworm and then build you applications onto that image. Read about the new OS and have fun experimenting! If it breaks just reload the image. By the way, I am NOT a linux or raspbian expert - I have learned all I know by trial and fail and searching on the internet for answers to fix each error I encounter. Edd - KD5M

Raspberry Pi 5 / Raspberry Pi OS Bookworm (Debian 12) / Direwolf v1.7 4
I just published a new version of my Raspberry Pi Hampacket documentation which includes lots of details on the new Raspberry Pi 5 hardware, details on the rather disruptive Raspberry Pi OS Bookworm / Debian 12 release as well updated the Direwolf section to support the brand new final version of Direwolf v1.7 here: https://www.trinityos.com/HAM/CentosDigitalModes/RPi/rpi-setup.html I hope it can help more people try out the Raspberry Pi, it's OS and packet radio. --David KI6ZHD
