RPI4 SD Card Reader

Ok if anyone knows how this is done, please share your wisdom. I will be asking Mr. Google

I also agree, but my experience has led me to find another problem in this category..MOST USB cords are so thin the voltage at the other end under load sags badly...just another thing to check maybe..

I agree with the power supply potential problem.?

I had the same issue myself. 2.5 amp supplies are sometimes not enough.?

What supply are you using?

Easily could be a low voltage or underrated power supply.?

This is a known issue with late model Pi 4’s.?

The red and green LED';s flash for a few seconds when it starts up. Then the green LED goes out and the red LED stays on. I am using the correct HDMI connector. The monitor is my television and it is on before power up. The TV screen just says "No Signal" I can unplug this pi and use the same SD card on an older RPI and it boots up just fine with the tv set as the monitor. I did this because I want to make sure that I have the TV set right and it is correctly set up.?

Do you see that diagnostic screen on your TV?? Yes I tried that and only got "No Signal"

If you insert your SD card into your rpi4 when connected to that little HDMI display, do you see anything or does the display remain black??"It remains black" ?If it remains black, can you try imaging any other SD cards just to rule out a bad SD card?"I am trying out a brand new SD card"

Have you tried using the Raspberry Pi imager to write a Raspberry Pi OS image to a USB thumbdrive / ssd /etc and then tried booting off that?? Yes I have wit the TV, I want to try it with the small display so stay tuned:I would recommend to FIRST try booting off the USB2.0 ports just to see if that works.

I would also recommend to see if you can try any other USB-C power supplies.? Maybe one from a more recent generation laptop, etc.? You could try a USB-C cell phone charger brick but you really want to find one that supports at least 5.0volts at 3.0amps or better.?The power supply that I have been using is 2.6 amps. The plan is to get the hardware for SSD and get the 4 amp supply that is recommended to go with the SSD card but I did not want to buy a bunch of RPI gear and then find out that my RPI is trash.?

No it will not boot up from USB to the small screen.
I am doing a new SD card using the Balena Etcher to see what that does

Put the SD card in and power it on and see what messages you get

I think that I have made some progress.
I hooked it to a very crappy HDMI monitor that I got with this RP. Anyway, I powered it up with no SD card and no USB thumb drive. I think that I am in the bootloader diagnostics. It is just a green screen that has some info on the board and every 20 seconds it repeats:
Failed to open device:? 'sdcard'?
root HUB port 1 init
USB MSD times out after 20 seconds.?

I think that this is progress but I know not what to do now.?

What did you see on the display when trying to boot?? If the screen didn't come up with anything then the power supply is toast

Get

No messages, just a blank or black screen that says No Signal

Then it's definitely the power supply.?

Ok yahoo, look at me dancing...............
Well last time that I danced I got handed several lawsuits about giving people PTSD but my lawyer says not to talk.?

I got the RPI 4 in Bootloader Mode. While in Bootloader mode I plugged in the USB stick with Raspberry PI OS (32-BIT) and it booted right up?
I then powered it down and took the USB stick out and powered it back on and waited for the Bootloader to run. While it was running I inserted the SD card and again it booted right up to the Raspberry Pi OS. I then powered it down and tried to get it to boot up with the SD card in. Again it booted right up.?
Now I have some questions about the future of this Raspberry Pi, so if you would like to give me your thoughts then I will be grateful.?

It could be the bootloader code is old. Boot it up and run:
sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade -y && sudo rpi-eeprom-update -d -a

The game plan for this RPI is to be the brain to a homebrew sBITX. I am buying the Raspberry Pi touch screen and a good power supply.?
I was under the assumption that the SD card reader on my RPI4 was no longer working. My son gave me a 2TB hard drive and I was going to buy the hardware to use the hard drive as SSD.?
Should I go ahead and upgrade to the SSD option while I am financially able to?
I don't need the 2TB hard drive but I hear that the RPI is much more stable with SSD or USB?

I'm sure you will be much happier with a SSD. The reliability will be better. What you will notice most, the SSD will be faster making your system run faster. I'm not using one right now, but when I was, the system was much faster.

Did you set the firmware to load from a usb drive.

When booting from a USB, which USB port should I use?

There's nothing to set. It does it all on it's own. Raspberries are very clever fruits.

When Ashar VU2ESE posted sBitX I thought I'd give it a try.
First, I managed to find an RPi400 at the end of August.
I started with this. I bought an original 5V 3A USB-C power supply and a Samsung EVO Plus 64GB SD card.
Since the monitor I use for the PC also has an HDMI connector, that's why I use it.

When I turned it on for the first time, I also had 'No Signal' on the monitor, then I realized that the HDMI cable connector at the monitor was not properly connected. It was just plugged in but not making contact. I haven't used HDMI anywhere before.
The RPi400 4GB is identical to the RPi4 in terms of hardware. The difference is the built-in keyboard and the large cooling surface, which prevents the CPU from overheating. RPi OS can be loaded from SD card or SD card and SSD or only from SSD. I didn't want to change the EEPROM content, so I didn't do anything, just boot BerryBoot from the SD card and load the OS from the SSD.
So I can return to the default situation at any time, i.e. I can also load the OS from an SD card.
Since I read a lot about the subject, the current situation is: - I bought a USB3 hub with an external powered supply, to which a WD green 240GB SSD is connected.
I use BerryBoot but also tried PINN for a while - then went back to BB.
The point is that I have tried several OSes so far.
I installed sBitX based on install.txt, but without WM8731 and Si5351 it can't login. In the meantime, I'm familiarizing myself with the possibilities.
I strongly recommend the search options provided by Google, which provide links related to Raspberry.
You have advantages in understanding, I have to translate the text first.
