Hi All,
I downloaded the image for the new release of W3DJS OS and software package. I need a bit of handholding to get the files off the W10 machine and into/onto an micro SD card and install it on my RPi 4. I am very keen to get started using this software. It may have been covered elsewhere in a post to the group but I cannot find it. I am reasonably computer leterate but I don't want to mess up and create more frustration. Thanks very much in advance. It would also be good to know if it can support the RTL-SDR dongle. I want to create an online SDR as part of a project for my final year at college. The idea is to build a webpage and somehow embed it in that or have a link available. I am a mature student so perhaps the sucessful installation might inspire some of my class to get into Ham Radio. 73, Tryg de EI7CLB

This program works great. You fire it up, find the drive where you have the SD card, then browse to find the image file you downloaded, select that and burn the image to the SD card. ? ? Brian N2KGC ? ?

First you must uncompress the file to an *.img file (or with Balena Etcher, I think the .tar may be usable)? If you need a program to unpack, see?
Then copy it to a SD Card using an image coping program like?

I was having issues with Win32DiskImager.? It was corrupting SD cards. Downloaded it fresh etc, same issue.? Wound up installing Balena Etcher and haven't had a single hiccup

Thanks for your help chaps. I have Balena etcher already installed on my laptop so I am going to try that now. Dinner can wait for a while.

OK, I d/l'd the files and used 7zip to extract them. There is a tar file and a BZ2, what do I do now?

The tar file is 17.1GB and the bz2 is 5.14GB. Just FYI. Thanks Tryg

HamPi_v1.0.tar that you download is only 3.65G 7zip will extract that into a folder with the following files.? see pic. you start etcher, and select the image file, which in this case will be HamPi_v1.0.img.xz, then select the sd card and start. If it's making a 17mb file, there was something wrong with the download...

I formatted the card with SD Card Formatter, so it was clean. I'm off to bed, it's getting late; 01:36.

I just thought that I would have another try before I went to bed. Total victory. I am happier than a dog with a half dozen juicy bones. I don't know what you are downloading, but there is no BZ2 file in this

Well, I tried for a few hours to try to flash a card (32GB) and getting Balena to find the file didn't work as Balena didn't recognise the tar file I downloaded only the bz2. I flashed it anyway but when I put the card in the RPi 4 (4GB) I ended up getting a screen that was the one in the attached image. If anyone has any ideas I could sure use some help. Thanks, Tryg

You can use Etcher to flash the .img file but it will also flash the .img.xz file and uncompress it on the fly. You don't have to expand it first.

Thanks to everyone that gave me the help I needed. I was up last night just staring at the screen in wonder. I thought that these moments were supposed too end in ones' teens. Anyway, there is a follow up question (well, two). Firstly, my RTL-SDR dongle will not tune below 24MHz. I don't know what settings that I have to adjust but I have RX'd before sub 24MHz on my SDR Touch app on the Android phone, the dongle is a proper one from RTL-SDR.com, I also cannot get it to connect to my wifi, is that not supported? It isn't a dealbreaker, far from it, I think that this distro/release/don't know what to call it, is great. I have to do some work for college and I am getting to the point where I'm thinking of selling my other computers and getting some other radio gear. Thanks again to all though, this is brilliant. Is there a way to send W3DJS a small donation for this excellent work, I owe the man a pint at least!

You need to set ¡°Q-Branch node¡± ? HF Direct Sampling Mode?- Listen to 500 kHz - 24 MHz with direct sampling. Simply connect an HF antenna to the SMA port, and choose the Q-branch mode. There is a built in 25 MHz low pass filter, but additional HF filters may be required for optimal performance (e.g. to attenuate strong MW AM). ? Dave G4UGM ?

some people are having issues with 5GHZ wifi.? Also, make sure to use the raspberry pi configuration and set the wifi country code.? without that, it will not attempt to connect

?I sorted the config out with the internet time zones and stuff but it asking me for ip4 and ip6 and the router, dns servers, dns search. I am not worried really as I can finish my work with this W10 machine.

Set it to DHCP and you don't have to use any of that
