Raspi4, Hamtronics and WxtoImg
VK2AHB
I have been able to get the Pi/7300 combo working for JS8, FT8, Winlink (via PAT) but cannot get WXtoImg to work. When going to File/Mixer.COntrol I get the Alsamixer GUI but the sliders for Capture won't slide.? It says Card and Chip: PulseAudio.
I am using a Hamtronics R139 with audio into the 3.5mm port on the Pi. The Options/Recording Options give options of default audio or a lot of Devices (1-15) plus USB and pulse. Selecting pulse doesn't advance me at all. Trying Record Manual locks it all up and I have to kill it. At the bottom of the screen it says "Status: waiting for nothing".? ?I have used WXtoImg for many, many years on the boat, and I'd really like to get it working on the Pi. Paul VK2AHB |

A bit more investigation...
I tried using a USB sound card which shows up on arecord -l as card 2, device 0.? ?The option USB audio... hw:2,0 became available under Recording Options in WxtoIMg. I use this USB sound card to record AX.25 telemetry so I know the card works. When I tried manual Record, I got an error complaining about the soundcard setting.? "Error can't open audio device -9985...Device unavailable, check soundcard settings in recording options.."? ? I had selected one of the defaults 11025. I tried the next one 22050 , then 44100 and got the same error. I also found that using alsamixer, not the GUI allowed me to tab the capture side and increase it with the up-arrow. Further experiments showed that Default audio, default or pulse would Manual record noise at a level of around 45 with full audio or none going in to the USB card or 3.5mm jack. Paul VK2AHB |
What OS/version? 73 On Sat, May 15, 2021, 22:42 VK2AHB <vk2ahb@...> wrote: I have been able to get the Pi/7300 combo working for JS8, FT8, Winlink (via PAT) but cannot get WXtoImg to work. When going to File/Mixer.COntrol I get the Alsamixer GUI but the sliders for Capture won't slide.? ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýMeans nothing for the Pi.? Natively, Debian has minimal support only through the Pi 3 series.? Raspbian is now called RaspberryPiOS, has driver's and firmware the pi's require for proper functionality.??
And Pi4 is only supported by Buster, the Pi4 8gb and the Pi 400 all need the Dec 2020 version of Buster or newer

This isn't entirely true as the whole support area around Raspberry Pi OS is confusing (kernel vs. distro): ?? - Kernels: Support from the Raspberry Pi foundation for new kernels is only for the *current* version of OS.? For example, when Buster was released, the Raspberry Pi foundation basically stopped releasing any new kernel updates for Stretch though there were some rare urgent exceptions.? : I personally would recommend anyone who really cares about security to upgrade or replace the OS to the newest released OS it's released.? For the Raspberry Pi OS cadence, that's typically the Debian release date + one month ?? - Distro:? Dave is correct.? The main support for Raspberry Pi OS Stretch ended in July 2020 as part of Debian's 2 year cycle.? Please don't confuse Raspberry Pi OS's patching support with say Debian LTS program.? There still isn't any LTS concept for Raspberry Pi OS at this time (but it has been discussed many times:? ) If you want a longer life OS, you're currently going to need to move STOP using Raspberry Pi OS to a different distribution such as real Debian.? Most things should work with "real" Debian but it's not going to have the same level of hardware support that Raspberry Pi OS offers.? If you were using true Debian Stretch, you could have enabled Debian's volunteer only supported LTS: ????? --> --David KI6ZHD

I had Stretch on my Mintbox Mini before the Pi400 replaced it around New Years. After using Mint I'm a little extra cautious. Thanks for clarifying.? 73 On Mon, May 17, 2021, 08:46 David Ranch <rpi4hamradio-groupsio@...> wrote:

To be accurate, it's a web-based front end to WXtoImg. It installs WXtoImg behind the scenes and runs it to process images. It's not a replacement for / alternative to WXtoImg. Martin. KD6YAM |
