HamPi power drain on idle

Now that a bunch of people have downloaded and installed HamPi, I'm curious if anyone has done any analysis of power drain on idle. Since the license disallows removal of BOINC, idle is never going to be really idle with HamPi. It'd be interesting to know how much impact this will have, especially on a battery-powered installation.

I installed HamPi yesterday on a B2.? Gets so hot with no apps running that the temp alert came on.? No fan, but small aluminum heat dissipater on the processor.. Haven't taken the time to look in to what's using the cycles yet.

Martin,

The?GNU General Public License for the OS supersedes the restrictions of which you mention.

It is your right do modifications if you choose to do so.

I can confirm that it is the BOINC app running your cpu usage sky high (100%) open the pistats app and click on the cpu % tab and watch, then change to the TOP tab and you will see boinc running at the top of the screen.

Just disable on startup - code still can live in the image.
I'd be curious to see how license could enforce "execution"
once deployed. IMHO.

Given the nature of the license as a paying it forward to a cause - I doubt anyone would try.

I am sure you would be able to pay it forward in another manner and everyone would be happy.

Personally as soon as I read the license I trashed hampi, I'm all for paying it forward but linux is about having the choice and full control of your system; not being locked down by it. I'd be fine with a link to a donation page on the desktop or something like that but forcing me to "donate" is unacceptable. I was thinking about paying it forward by helping to clean up the build scripts and bloat from the image but not anymore. What we really need is to have people working on an apt repository for ham tools for the pi. That I would gladly help with and donate too.?

Can one manage what constitutes idle time with the boinc manager.?

What I did was, using BOINC manager, set it to 25% and only to run from 00 ¨C 06.? Meets license requirements (different argument) and won¡¯t interfere at any time I would want to use it.? Should also keep the stress down on my PI except for when I¡¯m absolutely NOT using it.

?

If I want to participate I can always up the ante.

Requiring BOINC in this manner pushes it into the realm of malware, as It's creating slowdowns and stress on your pi in stolen cycles and increased heat. I can't recommend this package.

?

? has a section on removing BOINC completely, but I have not tried it.
