Event #10 - Tue March 12th #event_notice

Edited

Welcome to RandomGram Event Nr. 10

Date/Time: Mar 12th @ 15:00 - 17:00 UTC. That is Tuesday morning/afternoon for most.

New TX Lists (code groups) are available now for this event. Code groups from previous events are not valid and will not score. Obtain a registered TX List by emailing your call sign to the Group Owner email address at:

[email protected]

Objective: This is an "unlimited" event. Transmit as many different code groups as possible (one per QSO). Log as many as possible from other operators during QSOs and by SWL intercept. Additional Tx Lists of 25, 50, 75, etc code groups are available on request. For Rules & FAQ see HERE.

Teams: Teams are listed in the Roster & Results message post for this event here. Additional teams are available by request. Team membership is open to all and is completely optional. Operating on a team is no different than otherwise. Team scores are the sum of individual members' scores. If you're interested in joining a team for this event just email your call sign and team preference to [email protected]

Suggested Frequencies: 50-60 kHz above the bottom of non-WARC HF bands, conditions permitting. Elsewhere in the band may prove better depending on your region or QRM from other ongoing events. 7028 kHz is used in some regions.

Suggested Spotting Page: RG participants are invited to use the SKCC SkedPage at (SKCC Members who post or self-spot on the SkedPage-- please be prepared to provide an SKCC style exchange for callers who request it.)

Operating Tips:

- A transmitted group earns 2-points; a received group is 1-point (if accurately transmitted, copied and submitted);
- Work the same stations on the same band multiple times and exchange additional code groups;
- Transmit a new code group with every contact;
- For additional points monitor other stations: log and submit code groups they exchange (SWL/intercept);
- Submit your updated log or list of received code groups to obtain your current score.

For additional operating info see the RandomGram FAQ? HERE.

SWL Entries: Even if you don't transmit any code groups you can still earn Rx points by submitting groups you have logged while monitoring other stations. Your confirmation of other stations' transmitted groups will help them to earn Tx points.

Deadline for submitting your copied groups
: the sooner, the better. Other operators' TX points depend on your confirmation of their transmitted groups.

Roster & Results: for this event are posted HERE.

Have fun!

Re: Event #9 - Roster & Results #scores

Thanks to all who participated in RG#9. Nearly everyone who did has submitted their logged code groups. If any more logs are submitted I'll update the results. You can check the "final" results at the top of this thread topic at /g/RG/message/189

Three bug ops were in the top three places for RG#9: K5KV, WA9AQN and K9VKY. Team Bug had highest Tot and Avg scores.

I was on 20m for the full two hours and kept fairly busy. I think it was challenging for most people to get all 25 code groups confirmed by other stations. The previous event was limited to 10 code groups per operator; the next one will have unlimited groups (request as many groups as you like). The plan for future events is to alternate between 10, 25 and unlimited groups.

Next event will also be 2-hours duration but starting earlier at 1500z on Tuesday Mar 12. Watch for the event notice coming soon...

Drew/AF2Z

Event #9 - February 23rd #event_notice

RG#9 is today, Fri 2/23, from 21:00 - 23:00 UTC.

This is a 2-hour sprint limited to only 25 code groups per TX list. Please see the event description:

/g/RG/message/188

Good luck!

Upcoming event schedule through April 2024

Edited

Following is the RG schedule through April, for events #9 through #13. These will be 2-hour events, two per month with alternating day and time:

2nd Tuesdays @ 15:00 - 17:00 UTC
4th Fridays? @ 21:00 - 23:00 UTC

As usual, each event will require new TX Lists for participants, which will only be available for the immediate upcoming event.

The maximum number of code groups allowed for each participant will vary by event: 10 groups, 25 groups, or unlimited. Please read the individual event notices for details.

Welcome to RandomGram Event Nr. 9

Roster & Results. The current roster of participants, team assignments, and updated results when available, are posted HERE.

Date/Time:
Feb 23rd @ 21:00 - 23:00 UTC. That is Friday afternoon/evening for most; Saturday morning for the OC/AS region.

New TX Lists (code groups) are now available for this event. Code groups from previous events are not valid and will not score. Obtain a registered TX List by emailing your call sign to [email protected]

Objective: RG #9 is a 2-hour sprint. Each participant will be limited to one TX List of 25 code groups. The object is to transmit each of your groups at least once (one group per QSO), and have all of them logged & confirmed by other operators. You may want to loop through your groups list more than once and make additional contacts to ensure that all are copied and confirmed by other stations. Additional contacts will also continue to earn RX points with each new code group you log.

Teams: Current teams are listed in the Roster & Results message post for this event (see link below). Additional teams are available by request. Team membership is open to all and is completely optional. Operating on a team is no different than otherwise. Team scores are the sum of individual members' scores. The current time didn¡¯t work for me in Central (UTC-6)..Maybe an 8 hour event with ops limited to any 2 hours?

Please don't consider a later timeframe if you'd like participation outside of North America.?

CWops gets around the timezone issue by running the CWT in four 1 hour slots, 13z 19z 03z and 07z.?

Re: Event #8 - Roster & Results. #scores

Hi Jim,

Unfortunately, there are many who will find a 2-hour sprint to be at an inconvenient time, no matter when. That is the disadvantage compared to a longer event.

Here are two possibilities:

- Monthly sprint, alternating between 2000-2200 UTC one month, then 0000-0200 UTC the next month;
- Semi-monthly sprint, with first sprint at 2000-2200 UTC; second sprint a couple of weeks later and different day at 0000-0200 UTC.

No clock change for DST. The number of code groups would vary and be announced for each sprint; either 10 groups; 25 groups; or unlimited groups.

I'm not sure how a semi-monthly sprint would work out; could give it a try...

Re: Event #8 - Roster & Results. #scores

I also found the short RG 8 along with a week day time frame preferable. If you want to make it more challenging, add a larger TX list but just 10 was good enough for me. As others have mentioned, this type event is good for getting folks on the air and providing a little challenge at sending and receiving coded groups with accuracy. Thank you Drew for managing these events. And, especially posting the participant results within minutes of submittal.?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I also liked the 2-hour format and having it on a weekday evening.

Plus, having the limited RG set and 2-hour window meant we were all encouraged to send our groups more than once if possible, so as to be assured of getting our groups logged and reported.

And while there¡¯s a certain ¡®contest¡¯ flavor to this event, there¡¯s also a desire to get our messages through quickly AND accurately. The shorter time frame meant we were spending our time exchanging groups (or copying them) rather than hunting and hunting for someone new to work (if only for variety).

I¡¯m okay with a return to the previous format... but I really hope we might see "alternating formats.¡± so this one gets another run some day. (Or maybe there¡¯s yet another style of RG coming from Drew!)

Whatever happens, I¡¯ll be there. RG is a fun evening!

Thanks, Larry.

I also liked the 2-hour "limited" sprint with the 10-group goal. I cycled through my groups about three times to make sure they were all QSL'd by other stations. I operated a lot like I do in the longer "unlimited" events: I often send CQ RG while listening to an adjacent station so I can pause to copy their traffic, or occasionally jump over and respond to his CQ. But It was nice having to meet a definite goal of 20 TX points. We will try it again some time.

Someone has suggested raising the goal to 40 TX points (20 code groups per TX list) for the 2-hour event. Obviously that would thin out the top tier. Currently about half of participants managed to get all 10 of their groups confirmed for the maximum 20 tx points.

Next event will be in February; probably the longer unlimited format. In the mean time...

January is Straight Key Month! I hope you'll all take part. See the SKM/K3Y page at
