Sticky RandomGram Overview

Edited

Following is an overview and FAQ for RandomGram. If you have any questions please feel free to post them.

Rules:

  • Request a transmit list of random code groups from: [email protected]
  • Call "CQ RG" or answer such calls on non-WARC bands;
  • Send your real RST and one coded group to the other operator;
  • Copy the code group transmitted by the other operator;
  • Submit your call sign and all of your copied groups by email to [email protected]

Transmitted Groups (TX List):

  • Each RandomGram code group is a unique random combination of five characters.
  • Operators can request additional TX lists of 10, 50, 100, 200 or 300 groups.
  • A new group from your TX list should be transmitted in each QSO (see QSOs, below).
  • Groups can be selected from the TX List in any order, or skipped entirely.
  • Do not share your TX list with others.

Copied Groups
(RX List):

  • Copy the group transmitted by the other operator in each QSO.
  • For additional points, monitor other stations and copy groups that are passed between them.
  • Copied groups can be submitted one or more groups per line.
  • Submit all of your copied groups by pasting them into an email text (preferred); or send as a text file attachment.
  • If you are uncertain of a particular group submit only your best guess, not multiple variations.
  • Do not share your list of copied groups with others.

Scoring:

  • Score calculation requires that operators submit all the groups they have copied from others.
  • You earn 2 points for a transmitted group if it is accurately copied by at least one other participant.
  • You earn 1 point for each group you copy accurately.

QSO:

  • A QSO is defined as a contact you make either by calling CQ RG or by replying to a CQ RG.
  • Transmit only one group per QSO.
  • You can make multiple contacts with the same operator on the same band.

Example QSO:

The following example shows a typical RG exchange (the responding station is highlighted):

CQ RG DE AF2Z K
KB4QQJ

KB4QQJ DE AF2Z UR 559 RG XMRPL BK
RST 579 RG YYAMQ BK
TU 73... CQ RG DE AF2Z K ...

  • It's a good idea to preface your transmitted group with "RG" as shown above.
  • You may want to repeat the group for certainty ...RG YYAMQ YYAMQ...
  • If you want the other operator to resend their group send PLS RG? or just RG?
  • Feel free to add greetings and brief comments in your exchanges.
  • If someone sends you their SKCC info, QTH, Name, etc please reply with same.
