Photo: PFE Reefers

This is link to a 1928 photo from the collection of the University of Utah:

Not a remarkable or good quality photo but it does show the PFE practice at the time of putting the SP herald on the side with the B end to the right and the UP herald on the side with the B end to the left.

The reefer on the left.? Never seen anything so filthy.? BUT, the UP herald is clean!

Two comments from others who saw this photo:

"That photo also illustrates the practice of having 5 grab irons on the side and end on early-built R-30-12 and R-30-13 bodies, while later bodies had 6 grab irons at the same location (car at left)."

"Actually, for me a very remarkable photo-the car on the right is one of the R-30-2's rebuilt with a new style R-30-13 body on the old Harriman underframe. I have been looking for one like this for YEARS!!!

Thank You!!!"
