Jalopy history update: When the NASCAR XFINITY race took place at Talladega recently and was televised on the "CW Network", local Los Angeles TV station KTLA-5 is a CW station,? and it was the first time in 59 years that KTLA broadcast a auto race, the last time was Figure-8 racing at Ascot Park Gardena in 1965.

I really feel bumbed out. A number of years ago I could answer all questions regarding the CJA because the information was just feet away and I? had 95+% success in my research efforts. The last few years have been challenging and all the saved research materials have suffered while in storage. I could have used 50 large waterproof plastic tubs but that was just a dream. Waterproof does not mean moisture proof. Someday in the future I hope to be able to quickly grab a document and help researchers who have followed my footsteps? for preserving racing in Southern California.?

Jim, at Gardena Stadium in 1956 Don Paul drove #214 (Bill Mangold's race car) and Don Noel drove #188, is own car.

I'd be curious what the Kurtis claim is based on, as the frame doesn't seem to follow his practice on other cars, and the cowl and grille are generic for the time ... the latter a speed shop item.

Sure is an impressive induction and rear suspension, and the two seat configuration would add to the road racing probability. Track roadster, ala Vollstedt, Sutton, etc?

I think Don Noel raced with no alias. I actually met Don once in the 1990's at his son's body shop in west Los Angeles. I got to say Don must have had access to the Fountain of Youth. He looked like he did in 1957. Absolutely no aging. Truly remarkable. The others you mention I think they are different people, but I say that no real access to any of my research materials.
