prc-319 DMU question

When using DMU to send message on the 319 HF radio, does one need the same 310 DMU unit at the receiving end in order to read ("decode")the message?

Hi JC

Do you mean the DMU or DMHD (Data Message Handling Device) which connects to Audio 2 and uses X Mode?

Yes. I mean "DMHD (Data Message Handling Device)>

I only have a BCC39B, and PRC320 for now, I'm not so familiar with the PRC139 yet.

Hi

I think you will find that you need the same hardware each end, i.e. a DMHD at each end. I have no info but I suspect the DMHD is not compatible with the EMU.

If you are interested in the PRC 319 you may wish to join the PRC319 yahoo group as there are a few files there with good info including user handbooks and FAQs.

Hello folks,

in fact EMU and DMHD use the same code. So it can works together.

The main differnce its that DMHD posses its own modem and could work

with radio able to send data.

EMU is specially created for 319: the 319 enable data by its internal modem.

Hope it help.

Thanks for that info Alain. I will add a note to that effect on the PRC319 group.

Do the DMHDs come up for sale often? I guess it is more likely now that the Clansman gear is being cleared out...
