Jaguar / panther programming

Hi
Can anyone here clarify for me, are the jaguar and panther VHF radioa
programmable from the pc.
I know one can use the MA4073 programmer /MA4083 fill gun (if you can
find one, they seem to be like hens teeth!) but have recently been told
that there is/was available a pc programmer part number :-SP3635
Anyone any ideas?

Regards
Tony

Have'nt heard of any PC programming facility, unless it was towards the end of their production (first sets would have been in pre-Windows days, when PC's were not as freely available as later on.) I think the programmer/fill guns were more for bulk-filling an issue of sets to save time, although the sets I've used were all front-panel programmable, which is a bit time consuming, but gets there in the end, depending whether you load just clear channels, or hopsets, etc.

Can't the Jaguar be programmed from the front panel?

Yes, if you go past the "stop" on the programming and mode switches to the right hand positions

Hi

Thanks to everyone for the reply's I appreciate that the sets can be
programmed from the front panel, this is ok but having to do a few
sets, plus a mix of Jag / panthers and PRM4740 which is a real pig to
program from the top rotary knobs, I am looking for some way to fill
them all the same either by programmer or fill gun or pc whatever.
Just thought that if a programmer existed for the pc, it would be worth
looking out for.

regards
Tony

Hi,
The Jaguar V and the Panther V 2000 are not PC programable. The
Panther V EDR is via a RS232 fill gun emulator. to program the old
ones you need a BCC706A fill gun, for the EDR a BCC706C fill gun.

If you have not got any of these then you'll have to imput via the
keyad.

Hope this helps

Barry

Try programming a PRC-132 sometime :) One 0-9 rotary switch, and three buttons. AND you have to load TX/RX freqs....

I imagine that the SF guys hated this radio, especially if they had to load 30 freqs in 10 or more radios :)

Hi Barry

Thanks for the clarification, I didn't think that the Jag's were pc
programmable, it was just a comment that someone made to me that they
were.
The panther 2000's I was not so sure about, in the manual it mentions
a 'standard dos based program', 'allows spectrum information and
codes to be prepared on a pc prior to entry into the radio', followed
by mention of a 'dedicated programming device SW3601'. for more
details, refer to OPerators manual Ref. IH120.

That's what had me wondering.

Regards
Tony

Hi,

If I recall correctly, the original Jaguar V used the old RCA 1802
processor and I think that the fill-gun has one inside it too. I
asked one of the designers, from the old Wembley plant, why they
had used that particular chip. His reply was that it could be
stopped dead when required to save battery power and there wasn't
a more modern one available at the time that would do this. In
fact one of their later manpacks used the same beast.

For a time in the early 80's I worked on the Jag V in the Middle
East and once even taught a course on it. Can't remember a thing
now though. Most of our units had a 50W PA strapped to their
sides; the biggest cause of failure back then being the PIN diode
switches.
