New group members

Hi to all those of you who have just joined this group!

To all of you, I've just noticed that any of the optional "comments"
which you made when you applied to join the group aren't
automatically forwarded as a message when your application is
approved.

Quite a few of your comments are very relevant (specific interests,
items that you are looking for, etc) so please feel free to re-send
these to the group as a normal message.

I think you'll all agree that it's worth keeping the membership
approval system in place. It isn't a certian guarantee against
spamming, but at least it stops those individuals who join groups and
then immediately start spamming. At present, I can normally approve
applications within a matter of hours.

best regards,

bob

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the group. An alternative is to allow anyone to join
(automated applications are prevented by the yahoo procedure
requiring a graphic to be read and entered as text) but require posts to
be moderated. After a members first (or whatever) post you change
their settings to allow unmoderated posting. I use that procedure on
clansman/larkspur group and it seems to solve the spam problem.

Thanks, Howard, I think I may change to it those
settings for a while, as it obviously encourages new
members by them feeling they can join immediately, but
on the other hand most postings to the group would be
unlikely to be "urgent", and so wouldn't cause offence
if there was a slight delay in them appearing.

best regards,

Bob
