There are two distinct tune modes with the BCC540G
?
The first one is the standard initiate tune by momentarily breaking and restoring the DC supply on Pin C and then applying at least 1w of RF the tuning sequence will then complete or stop at the nearest point to a correct tune.
?
The second method if used with a suitable radio e.g BCC39 is for the set to send a PWM serial control word to select one of 128 memory locations. This is what the battery is for to keep those memories active.
?
If DC power is removed from the ATU then the current tune position is lost and on re-applying the DC supply then one to the above procedures is needed to activate the tune again.
?

I am contemplating purchasing a Syncal 2000 VIU to set up my Syncal 2000 in my land rover. However, there is no point in buying it if I can’t acquire the rails to mount it.

Those Sherwood specs are only of very limited use in average amateur radio conditions.
If you look at professional grade receivers, these specs are useless as capabilities of a radio to deal with noise are much more important and professional receivers lack these capabilities in general.

The Racal BCC 540G AAMTU will store 128 channels of tuning data.

However, notes in the technical manual that I have state that the d.c. supply is to be maintained after a tuning search and if removed this tuning information will be lost.

What then is the purpose of the internal 3.5V lithium battery??

As a user of Racal Syncal 2000 in the 100W vehicle config, I can try to answer q's
I am no expert on Rx capability, suffice to say I find it acceptable
The VIU sits on two Long Rails, that are then secured via two bolts and Nuts and washers through the Radio Table, the rails are fairly rare, but you may get lucky
Your 28v should be no problem, I believe there is tolerance to take that voltage

OK send some pictures of what you have and what you believe it to be worth and would like for it.
Our posts have been seen by others and I have had multiple offers for the EMU bits of kit I don't want or need and a cash offer.
The obvious thing to me for me to do is leave it in the 319 and it then is a complete setup with all the other bits I have.
I am willing to split it all as I believe it will make more separated and sold.

the front panel keys work and show what the function is on both displays.
It is amazing that I cannot tune to a frequency, the display does not show this on the left display, only a row of zeros, what is the problem? any idea maybe where i should look

I remember something like that. There are copies of the manuals to be found on line...? Worth a read. The only switches inside are to do with BITE, Signature analysis, and Presetting Mode preferences for example.? The ISB option requires a link to be moved if fitted, others like filter set, tuning rate, scanning and remote card choice are all firmware dependent. It's all in the book.
