Strange Racal set
Alan Tasker
I have a tubular frame that mounts a TRA-967 transceiver, a TRA-970 power amp, an MA-972B ATU, a small junction box, and a (missing) battery box. The battery box would be about 13.5" long by 3.25" wide by about 4.5" deep. The box would have two mounting screws about 9.25" apart.
Does anyone have a clue on a Racal designation for this assembly? Is there any source for the battery box? Thank you. Alan WA1NYR |
Racal PRM-4031 Manuals for sale.
Keith Watt RN
Hello everyone, I've been asked by Bob to put this out to the group -
I have a supply of Racal PRM-4031 Manpack workshop manuals on CD ROM. The CD will self run in a PC and has a menu that gives the options of installing Adobe Acrobat Reader, Viewing the manual on CD, reading the information about the CD and Exiting the menu. The actual manual on the CD is laid out in Chapters as per the paper manual. You can view/read each chapter on your PC or you can print out each chapter where by making the original paper version of the manual. The manual contains all the information about accessories for the PRM-4031, descriptions about the PRM-4031 and every PCB in the radio as well as circuit diagrams of each PCB, PCB layouts of every board, fault finding procedures, flow charts on fault finding. It literally contains everything one would wish to know about this radio, how it works and where each test point is and what it should read on the test points. It is a very comprehensive manual about the Racal PRM-4031. Now the bit that hurts, well not in this case. The cost of the CD is ?10.00 (ten pounds sterling) and that price includes UK postage and packing. International postage is at cost. If you wish to order a CD please contact me at - keith.watt @ hushmail.com note you will have to go through the authentication process imposed by my ISP to enable your e-mail to reach me, it is very simple and it keeps the spammers out. Regards, Keith Watt RN (Rtd.) |
Re: Racal Sales Brochures
Hi, Vic (and everyone),
It's just waiting for me to buy a new scanner! As soon as I do, I can promise you all the Racal Tacticom "Concise Catalogue" (no printing date on this, unfortunately, but by the contents I would guess at mid-1980s) plus the colour brochures (around 8-10 pages each) for the TRA.931 and the PRM HF models. best regards, Bob --- vtuff59795@... wrote: Hi Bob, __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Re: FA: BCC morse key on eBay
Alan Tasker
Be careful about those batteries. Combat Radio has the following to say about some of them. The batteries on eBay, both the 12 and 24 volt batteries with chargers built in are part of the Yeoman project. There were two projects given out to tender to produce radios for the new British Army Bowman system, one was called Yeoman and the other Archer.? The radios therefore have never been put into production as they were purely development radios.? Limited amounts of this kit is floating around on the surplus market.? The built-in charger makes this unit very heavy and the DC cable for the charger is virtually impossible to obtain.? Ni-cad batteries inside these units are not 'D' cell, they are larger. |
FA: BCC morse key on eBay
There's a nice BCC manpack morse key, with knee strap, on eBay, at:
ViewItem&category=1502&item=5702298605&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW There's also several Racal manpack batteries. I've just been trying to set up a Link to Racal manpack items on eBay, but it's not successful - it works, but even excluding Racal names for datacomms, respirator, and cellular products, etc, from the Search term "Racal" it still throws up too many non-green items. On the other hand, using the Search term "Racal manpack" would have missed the key above, which does not have the word "manpack" in the advertisement. Better than a Link would be the eBay automatic notification service, using several well though out Search terms such as "Racal manpack", "Racal tactical", etc, but I cannot see any way to have these posted automatically into this group. Anyone got any thoughts how we might achieve something like this? best regards, Bob |
Re: Racal manpack models list
Hi Bob,
That's the first 4041 other than my own that I've come across! Do youAll I have is the MA4040A RT. I might have the interconnect cable to the ATU but I am not sure, it looks like it should work. I think I have a carrying frame coming. I really need the VRA4026A AATU and antenna if anyone has them for sale. Tom |
Re: Racal manpack models list
Hi, Tom,
Yes, I've just checked with "Janes", and that shows MA. That's the first 4041 other than my own that I've come across! Do you have any of the items unique to this model - Remote Control Handset, Extended Control Handset? best regards, Bob --- In Racal-manpacks@..., Tom B <tbryan@n...> wrote: Hi All,4041.PRM-4040 is supposedly the same, a 4041 w/o the ATU,The 4040 I have is marked MA4040A, not PRM. Re: Racal PRM 4041 and other parts
Hi,
?????? I have a couple of brand new extended carrying frames for the PRM 4041 series transceivers. They have mounting plates for the MA 4040 Transceiver and the separate ATU. I also have NOS Racal morse keys and knee straps as well as some other assorted kit. I may soon have some Jaguar U vehicle sets if any one is interested. As well as the Racal kit I have assorted Plessey Raven radios and accessories. 73's Vic G7PYR |
RACAL TRA-906M
I have a TRA-906M which is not related to the TRA-906
Squadcal in anyway, internal or external. Mine was built in 1988/89 according to date codes on semiconductors. 2-12Mhz, 5 watts, internal tuner, clansman 7 pin connectors and antenna, 100Hz tuning, 12VDC/180mA RX. This could be a great QRP NVIS rig. I have a service manual but it describes a synthesizer made of discreet components. Mine is a new style with a huge racal synthesizer chip as the primary content on the board. Does anyone have a documentation on the new style board????? Thanks, Chuck Maurer |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý?Hi Bob and Group,
?? I have the BCC-39B. The BCC-39( not B)? ?users manual I have shows it with US type audio connectors. I haven't learned anything about a "C" model but there is a BCC-39D which has a built in ATU instead of the clip on ATU and the display is LED instead of liquid crystal. There is also The next in the line called the Panther H which is a BCC-39D with the addition of frequency hopping.
?
?Looking forward to learning a lot more about the Racal manpacks.

Racal Links on the Web site
Hi, All,
I've added a number of other Links to the Web site, the descriptions of most of which are fairly brief and will be improved later. If you know of any other sites with significant Racal content, please let me have details or, if you wish, add them yourselves. best regards, Bob |
Racal manpack models list
Hi, All,
I'm working towards a database of the Racal equipment which interests us, beginning with the manpacks (including green handhelds and "squad" radios) themselves, and eventually including all the contemporary green equipment too. I'd begun this during the last few days, but thanks to member Alan, I now have a bigger list of manpacks which includes non-Racal models too. Eventually, I'll add a file of non-Racal manpacks, since most of us will be likley to be interested in these too. The following is the complete list of Racal (including BCC) models known to me. Before I finish adding a brief description and spec for each model, is anyone aware of any models which I haven't currently included? PRM4041
John Cook
Hello to the group,
Good to have a place to gather info about the Racal manpack sets. I have a BCC-39B and plan to get the vehicular 100 Watt adapter to use it as a VRG-319 in my M151A2 Jeep. Bob, I'm curious about the PRM4041, I have never seen one and there seems to be no info to be found on the internet about them. Could you post a photo or two in the groups photo section and maybe list the specs here on the group. Cheers, John K6ERO |

Hi, my name is Keith Watt RN (Rtd.), call sign G4MSF. I'm the guy who
got Demetre SV1UY his Racal PRM-4031. I currently use a Racal PRM-4031, MA-4107 PSU/AMP from home and when out portable I use the PRM-4031 with either its whip or the 5.4m masts, of which I have 2 complete 5.4m mast kits and the multi band dipole kit strung between them. I also have the battle whip, but never tried it yet as it looks like an extended dummy load! I also have a TA-4044 100 watt Racal RF amplifier, if anyone has any documentation on the unit I would appreciate some advice and I am willing to pay for a copy of the manual. If I drive the amp with 4 watts it will put out just over 100 watts on 80m, but there are a multitude of BNC connectors on it and it sometimes is reluctant to switch on to high power. Any help would be most welcomed. I am also the Co-owner of The Wireless-Set-No19 Group on Yahoo as my radio interests go further then just Racal radios. I have what I consider to be the most complete Wireless Set No.22 station anywhere and it is all original and working. I worked 3500 mile from North East UK to Boston in the USA last year on 7 MHz to W1HIS who was using a Wireless Set No.19. We were both deployed out doors and powered from battery supply so that we were as close to original working conditions as possible, short of someone firing bullets at us! The Wireless-Set-No19 group is at - The Wireless Set No.22 WEB page is at - I look forward to hearing more from this new group. Regards, Keith Watt RN (Rtd.) G4MSF. Hi lads,of a RACAL 4031.and other times a half sized handheld dipole on 14 MHZ. We used theabout RACAL radios, to join this group too. |
