? I acquired a Land Rover Series 2A. In one of the rear stowages, I have found about 10 of the Larkspur microphone and control box units. They have probably been sat in there for at least 2 years. I don't want them, I have no Larkspur equipment, they probably need refurbishing. Would anyone like to make me an offer of ?30 for the lot, and they can be collected from Ilchester, Somerset.

FW: update from Yahoo groups
As the following was received from Yahoo today, I feel obliged as List-Owner to pass it on to you all, hoping that a few of you at least may be able to translate it from Yahoospeak. Most initial suggestions are that it's Yahoo's way of saying "we're doing nothing".

Hi everyone, Over the past few months, we have been evaluating your feedback on the new Groups experience that we have been testing with some groups for several months. Thanks for your feedback and thoughts throughout this process.

ForSale: Racal VRM.4555C-UL HF Transceiver
I have decided to sell my Racal VR.4555C-UL. This seems to be a fairly rare radio made by Racal Messenger, and I believe may have either been made by them in conjunction with TransWorld Radio, or was sold by TWR in North America (the UL suffix to the type number would tend to support this). My understanding is that they were sold primarily into the airline LDOC market.
?
It's a very compact radio in a black anodised case, 150W output, and 12V operated. It has the capability for six crystal-controlled channels, this one currently has only one channel fitted in the 5MHz region. NOTE that some small L and C components around the other crystal sockets appear never to have been fitted. Controls are fairly simple in line with it's intended market - two levels of attenuation, but perhaps the most attractive feature is the use of the Racal Syllabic Rate Squelch, which works extremely well. I've got a very brief information sheet on the radio, but understand that the Workshop Manual may be placed on the VMARS site soon.
?
Note also that the radio has a slight fault with the symptoms of the received audio dropping to a low level occasionally. Cleaning and re-seating all the individual module board connectors on the motherboard doesn't seem to have cured this, and it has all the symptoms of a dry jointsomewhere.
?
I may eventually be able to actually sell this, but because of a project in which it is involved at the moment I need to replace it with something "non amateur", physically smaller, lighter, and with a lower transmit power consumption, and needs to be 12V operated. The most obvious candidate would appear to be a Yaesu FT-70, so initially I'm looking for an exchange for one of these, but will consider other candidates!

WTB X-R RELAY AND POWER SWITCH FOR TRA-931
Anyone know if there is a Mouser part number for the transmit receive relay for the Racal TRA-931? Also I am looking for the power switch wafer switch. Anyone have a parts set? Bruce WD9GHK

Walt, on at least 2 sets I've found noisy TX and RX to have been caused by noisy trimmer pots on things like VCO modules and I think there is one called the Non Linear amplifier module that is common to TX and RX - carefully noting the position and then tweaking the pot either side and back to the original position can help in this case.

Walt,
If the noise is common to TX and RX on the 351, it could be something common to both parts, such as the VCO, or power supplies.
?
Does it vary in level and frequency with higher and lower voltage (ie, 22 and 28V) applied to the set, and is it the same at higher and lower than normal temperatures.
?
Although not very scientific, what has worked for me in the past has been to open the set up, and very carefully unplug and re-seat the edge connectors, which could have an intermittency.? It also gives a chance to see if the set has been repaired previously, as sometimes the soldering on the repaired area can be quite rough, and nowhere near as good as the factory soldering.
?
It's also worth looking for any loose, missing, or trapped screws, as all the manpacks in the Clansman range seem to have an occasional problem of screws coming adrift and causing mayhem inside!
?
Over and above that, it could be worth putting a scope onto the supply rails, especially around sensitive areas, like the VCO's, to see if there is a concurrent spike there, as the tantalum capacitors used 25+ years ago can now start to fail.

I am looking for some guidance with my prc 351. I have a loud pop or crackling sound on the audio both transmit and recieve thru the full range of the radio. This problem deveolped after I have used the radio for several months without any trouble. The noise is not present on the sidetone as heard in the handset. I have checked the audio connections, substituted handsets, check for corrosion around the audio connections, changed batteries and antennas. Would anyone have any other suggustions. do you know if there is a particular module that may be at fault.
thanks in advance for any help, 73 Walt

Re: Syncal30 (TRA931X) PA
If so, can you say what is the minimum that one has to do to gain access to it, and is it still possible to operate the set with it accessible? ----------------------- I don't really understand the question. I have replaced the RF PA transistors in two Syncal 30,s. It's not easy but I have dealt with much worse. KB0SFP Monitor(all USB): 3996, 5403.5, 7296, 14342.5, 18157.5

Has anyone had the fun of accessing the PA board on the Syncal-30 ?

Hello,
I read somewhere that with the up and down buttons of the BCC39b radio, you can "scan" the band at two different speeds. ? I can do this on my unit but one speed only, kind of slow. ? ?
Has anyone found a way to scan faster or fast mode?
Tks
