Use MRF-401. It will actually work a little better than the originals. Available from: ? Dennis StarksMilitary-Radio-Guy KB0SFP Monitor(all USB): 3996, 5403.5, 7296, 14342.5, 18157.5

You will probably get a negative answer on this one, as most were produced
as trials kit at Racal Salisbury, so I am lead to believe, and even the guys
formerly at Racal Reading and subsequently at Thales Crawley, have no knowledge
of any instruction/maintenance manuals for the 3900 series of radios (VHF and
HF), this of course Racal's offering for the Bowman contract?? The offering was
called Yeoman.
?
I wish you luck, the only hope we have is to track down the original
designer/design team, they may still have notes, those on hear who are Ex Racal
please get back to us, you know who you are, reply direct if you don't wish to
go public, hope all is well in Marlow!
?
This from Pre Bowman days, clipped from the web: In the UK, Racal is bidding with Siemens Plessey Systems as the Yeoman team for the British Army's next generation communications requirements. Project BOWMAN will provide a state-of-the-art voice and data network with encrypted, ruggedised and electronic warfare-resistant communications. Racal will provide all VHF/HF radio communications for Bowman, based on the Jaguar, which is the world's most widely used tactical radio, and developed from its second generation radio, Panther. Siemens Plessey Systems will be responsible for the management information systems and overall system design. ?

Re: TRA 921 clarifier
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýPete:
?
I have modified two TRA-921's to work on 60M.?
This is not a clarifier, but it is very simple to do.? The MHz knob on the
radio selects a crystal oscillator for each 1 MHz band from 2 to 7 MHz.?
The PLL synthesizer does the 100 KHz, 10 KHz and 1 KHz selection.? I simply
found the crystal for the 5 MHz band and put a 12 pf capacitor in parallel with
it.? You may have to "tweak" this value a bit to get it just right.? I
did this by selecting the capacitor from several on hand.? This offsets the
entire 5 MHz band down 500 Hz, but it will take you less than 15 minutes to put
the mod in the radio.? This mod?will require you to tune to the next
higher 1 KHz position on the dial, while on 60M.
?
I thought about replacing the desiccator with a pot
and put a?varicap diode?on the reference oscillator,?but I have
not got around to it yet.? This would reduce the frequency stability a
bit.? It is very good now.
?
This radio also have very good true AM modulation
and?a true AM detector along with a good AM IF filter.??For those
who?check into any of the military?radio AM nets, it is?better
than most packsets.
?
Good luck,
?

TRA 921 clarifier
g1inf
Hello, folks,
Has anyone any experience with fitting a clarifier (tx and rx) to the synth on a TRA 921? I've acquired a couple of these radios, and one of the applications I intend for one of them has frequency allocations at xxxx.5 kHz. I'm guessing I need to pull the reference osc crystal, but I'd rather get sound advice before plunging in. Best regards, Pete. |

when you say " in working order (as far as I can

what does that mean ?

Does it receive? does it transmit ?

What's been 'tested' ?
