Re: Racal 3910 2 Khz offset

BCC39B no offset TRA3910 2 Khz offset.
I just wonder if the offset was not so much data related but would
also not fall on an even freq so is harder to locate & jam. With the
late type EW this is not a problem but may have ben kept that way.
The question 1st came up with me from a chap in Canada who had bought
a 3910.Mike would be good idea to make up a list.Regards Keith.

Most of what you want for the 931 is in the FILES section.
The 931 manual is pretty hefty . Somewhere I saw one advertized on a

Re: Racal 3910 2 Khz offset

Belton, Alan

From my limited dealings to date with the HF side of Bowman, I can't answer the question: as a result of the current debate I mentioned this when I was e-mailing an aquaintance on Op Herrick last night, who uses the things in a non-techy way as a vehicle fit, and they said that if you manually key in a frequency, it talks to US and civvy (ie Yaesu) stuff with the same frequency displayed, give or take frequency errors of a 100Hz either way. The actual behaviour of these sets is probably down to what fill they have been given, so it could well be that they have been told to talk "proper" single frequency simplex, as opposed to the Clansman type "almost-simplex"?
I recall being told years back that the Clansman offset was down to data and rtty use into ISB terminals,(and not to ask any more smart answers!), so there you go.....
Don't know where you would find it, but the original procurement requirement for the Bowman system back in the mid 90's would probably have some sort of rationale about IF shifts in it, same as happened after the WW2 when they went over to VHF and FM, lots of doctrinal documents were generated justifying everything, even down to the merits of squelches, etc.

Got to be careful here, but ALL Clansman HF radio had the same offset.
Syncal 30 does not Syncal 2000 does. C11SSB does as far as I remember.

I believe all modern sets in the clansman period do have it

What about Bowman I have asked and not been given an answer yet - may be it
is classified!

too being used with Clansman.Regards Keith.
