?

I have a TRA931 in good clean working order, with whip, telephone handset, boom mic headset + PTT, & Charger. All dry stored last few years. Based in North East London.

I could be tempted to sell it :-)

Offer/comment off-list?

Could I please remind all members to sign postings with a name, and a callsign if you have one?

If you don't have a callsign, it is always helpful to give some indication of where you are located, particularly if itens for sale are involved.

Bob

Anyone willing to part with a TRA931 backpack??

Unknown Amplifier Modules

I am looking for informations about unknown for me Power Amplifiers modules and working with them splitter and combiner.

PA module is build around pair of D1005UK DMOS transistors. I was told by lady in military surplus company that in dissassebled amplifiers it was in total five PA modules plus one power splitter and one power combiner. But she was not able to say more.

I was trying some reverse enginering and it looks like power supply is 24-28VDC ( no magic here).

Voltage stabilizer for bias is TI 750M10C. There is also a kind of control circuit build on SN75177P.

Only on Power Combiner I can see numbers similar to NATO numbering 3513-172-464-7. But nothing on www on that.

As I secured few sets of above its woth to look for information, diagram.

Re: BCC540

Hi Gerald.
I am new on Racal -manpacks group.
Recently I bought from military surplus company two BCC540B ATUs. One was died but anoter hopefully was working well. I managed to to made working first one by replacing power pass thru relay and few resistors.
I am looking for BCC540B technical service manual or just circuit diagram.
Version B control board is completly different from revision G. Rev G manual is available on the www.
Could you help please?

Circuits for Racal Panther modules.

Hi Group - does anyone have the circuit diagrams for the modules used in the Racal Panther?
I have got the 1st and 2nd level servicing manuals, but these do not contain the circuits for the modules.

Julian Barnard.

Re: BCC-66H

Yes the 2 pin power plug on the VIU is A positive and B earth, according to the manuals.

Re: BCC-66H

Hi Dave, many thanks the info, that is what I thought but I needed to make sure!, The basic radio is a manpack for 12v battery use and in the vehicle configuration with the added module they run from 24v. VIA the addon module, excellent, I can play now !, Any idea which pin on the VIA for the BCC-66 is the positive, normal Clansman I believe is A - positive yes.

Re: BCC-66H

The radios in both cases uses 12v through the audio connectors or on the rear terminals. The battery for the BCC66 is the MA4025 it's also used on the PRM4090,4031,4021,MA4041 and the Cougar SMT unit. So only connect 12v to the bare radio.

The VIU supply is 24v and it converts the 24v from the vehicle to 12v to operate the radios through the audio sockets.

In vehicle configuration the BCC66 and BCC567 are termed VRQ316.

Re: BCC-66H

Some confusing information appears, I have also A TRA967 with it's amplifier, the set takes a 12v battery yet the manual says the set ( and the amplifier ) can be connected to a vehicle supply ( 24v ) and the same in the manual for the BCC-66H and the VIA, mentions a 12v supply AND being connected to a 24v vehicle supply through the VIA unit, so which supply do I use ?for the basic radio and/or with the accessory units for either radio.

Re: BCC-66H

Hi Kevin, thanks for the info, now have the manuals.
Seems the Clansman connectors fit, even the DC connector so I'll have to do some shopping for a 2pin power connector for the set.

Leighton,

Jaguar V, great radio. I was working in the Racal labs at South Ruislip when the radio was designed. It uses Clansman 7 pin connectors rather than the earlier type as used on the Syncal 30 for example.
?
I recall Dave, PMR conversion, has the handbooks for this set, they include the circuits etc.

?I have recently obtained a Racal BC-66H Transceiver with it's attached Vehicle Interface unit BC-567HE, I have found the basic manual for this kit but no circuit details giving handset/headset connections etc, I also have the TRA 967 kit which has headsets etc with it, are these headsets useable with the BC-66 ? I would think so as they are for a Racal set, I also have the auto atu and antennae base for the 967, can this be used with the BC-66?.Any advice as to setting this BC-66 up and details of circuits etc would be appreciated.

Re: Final transisters for racal 921 syncal 30

I fitted a pair to mine 10 years ago. I still haven't mustered the bravery to power it up.?
I used equivalents, forget the part number.
Your point is probably very valid about the ALC circuits. I will pay that the utmost diligence.

This is a nightmare zone as far as I am concerned. I have had a Syncal30 on the bench that keeps on blowing its finals for no obvious reason. Probably some kind of VHF resonance.

Sources of transistors (2N5070) are:
1) Guy in USA on eBay had a big batch of them a while ago. I was going to say don't use these but maybe the set I have is the reason they keep blowing as I have now tried parts sourced elsewhere.

2) A scrap Racal 100W amplifier TA940. This has a pile of these transistors (or an equivalent).

3) The finals of a Clansman 320 (I think it is) has a pair if you can find a scrap one.

The snag is you need a load to be able to match them. I have found they are quite variable in their parameters.

Like me, you might want to worry about why they blew in the first place as the Syncal finals are meant to be protected from the obvious and normal abuse. Check that all the ALC circuits are working correctly because you don't get any warning if they are not.

My manuel does state from 18 to 22 volts but as you say going myuch over 18 is pushing it I've run 18 .? with out problems im not dure why my finals are giving me problems im having it checked outbefore buying anything. maybe its some other issue.besides finals.thanks for your reply
