Re: Flexible antenna goose neck
Hi Dave,
I think you are correct. It is a Racal base for the TRA921/931/906 etc. It works just fine for HF. The A40/41 base is threaded so it is not correct for that radio.

I came across this item on Ebay that may be of some interest. It looks like a flexible antenna goose neck as used on TRA921/931 etc.

Re: Flexible antenna goose neck
Thanks for correcting that Stuart.
I've got a 931 with the goose neck and proper antenna but recalled seeing someone on here looking for one when I was searching the archives recently and thought it was possibly of some use to someone.

Re: Flexible antenna goose neck
Dave
?
The antenna goose neck is that of the SR A40 and SR A41 Larkspur VHF set,
not to be confused with racal 921/931, it will fit into the top of the set, but
what do you put in the top of it? the only antenna that will fit is the elastic
held together whip, of VHF length, Not suitable for HF

HI-G makes an equivalent.
However, I bet if you drill a hole in the side and squirt a little Cramolin in there, they will clean right up. --scott

I find my VRC-321 is great for 5MHz and other spot frequencies, but as Gerald says, it's not great for tuning around looking for a QSO. There have been some discussions on modifying the set to allow say +/- 10 kHz frequency changes without the set forcing a retune but as yet I've not seen a mod that allows a big frequency swing like has been done for the PRC-320, by G4OEP.
One possible route that has been suggested for VRC-321/PRC-320 LSB operation is to use a Ramsey kit SS70 speech inverter, see their web site. I've got mine going on RX but there's a bit too much broadband noise for TX and I've shelved the project for the winter months. It's not a cheap option but it can be used as an add-on unit between the headset and radio, powered off the set, and there's no need to hack the radio around.

Guess it depends upon what you mean by 'good radio'
Philip.
?
Seems it was a 'good' radio for the military, limited in its
'goodness' for the amateur though.
