LF Converter 237B Wanted to buy.
Be aware that although the RA37 (no tuning scale) and the RA137 which are
both designed to extend the LF range of the RA17 and RA17L etc, may work up to a point with an RA117, there will be unwanted mixing products and other issues due to the fact that the 2nd VFO/Mixer in the RA117 does not include a tuneable band-pass filter. This is why Racal introduced the RA237 LF converter, which includes a 2MHz crystal notch filter to further eliminate any 2MHz breakthrough. The converter take the 1MHz from he RA17 or 117 and double it to 2MHz. The fixed 2 - 3MHz filter in the RA117 does not provide sufficient rejection. Just saying . Thanks for that Ian, and for your marvelous website. Your thoughts are always welcome, and I certainly know where to ship to for a RA-237 equipment service when I find one.. The RA-37 will do for now until a RA-237 comes along. I intend to cheat a bit with the RA-37 until then. My spear HP 85685A RF Preselector has a band-pass width of 9 kHz tuneable in the 150 kHz to 30 MHz range, so I might just be able to filter out some unwanted mixing products if I am clever enough. We'll see. But I do take your point and the search for a RA-237 is ongoing. Kind regards, Terry. |

Hi 73, Jacques, VE2JFE in Montreal, Thank you for your kind message. It can't hurt to experiment with that on the RA-37. I'll see what I can do when the RA-37 arrives. Have you tried this yourself? I've just started reading the RA-237 manual. The tuning scale of the RA-237 has some appeal, and since the RA-237 was designed with the RA-117 in mind, I'm still on the look out for a RA-237. Hopefully it can be serviced at Ian's shop when the time comes. Kind regards, Terry. |
I would be grateful to obtain an RA237B manual. I've tried the usual

Hi Douglas Denny. G3ZQE. Thank you for your request. By the power of Google Drive and Mathew 7:7, you will shortly receive an email with the manual attached, that you can download onto your computer. The RA 273B manual is 31 MBytes and was sourced from the Internet. Please let me know if there are any issues and enjoy reading. Kind regards and 73s, Terry. |

Hello all,
Having never had my hands on a RA237, I had a look at the manual this morning. The why of the extra filter is Obvious as Ian explained earlier. The thought occured that is would be easy to ad that filter to a 137 or 37. In my spares I have a 2MHz crystal + trimmer. Will try that with one of my RA117’s next time I rotate radio’s. At the moment Racal wise I have a RA17 MK1 + RA137 and a RA17L + RA63 (coupled to a KW Vespa MK1) This MK1 was never upgraded to a MK2. The MK1 is OK in daily use, but a MK 2 and the MK3 (L-version) are better. The MK2 has extra filters to combat unwanted mixing products + better AGC. All the higher part numbers on the schematics. Also the MHz tuning is not as sturdy as the later versions. Plus some safety features. But this thread was not about the MK1……… Regards Pieter PA3HDU Verzonden vanuit Mail voor Windows |
