Forum upgrades to handle R90S World
2
Hello again all, I have upgraded the forums to send the full message out for any new topics or replies thus allowing us to emulate the email system as good as possible. If you just want to follow the conversation you can just follow email. If you want o post or see all the threads you need to go to the forum. There is a link in the email as well to quickly get you to the forum. You need to be a member (paid ro free) in order to use the forum so please sign up if you have not already. I also made a single forum notification setup page that can be found here: https://vintagebmw.org/forum/vbmwmo_notifications.php and will allow you to make updates to your settings from there. I am also working on a "digest" feature that will allow you to get a single email on a daily or weekly basis with all the updates. That upgrade is forthcoming. Please send me email at webmaster@... if you havre any issues or questions. Thank you!! James

Better email support for the forum
All R90 Worldnet members, I have heard from several of you that you wanted better email integration for the forum to make it more like the groups.io email you are used to on the Worldnet. The good news is that I am working on it and I will have something better in the coming weeks, but it will be incremental and I rely on your feedback to tell me how good it is for you and what you might like to see. The bad news is that the functionality is not going to go from your "typical forums" to perfect in one shot, it will be slow and will likely never be able to fully replicate the email system. I will work on it though as it will make the forum experience better for everyone. Please email me at webmaster@... with any questions or comments! Thank you!! James

THANK YOU JAMES WONDER!! Migration to forums is done
We all owe a big Thank You to James Wonder for his wizardry and big time efforts in successfully moving the R90sWorldnet with io over to the Vintage BMW Motorcycle Owners website now titled “R90S World”. We can all access the new “R90S World” at the Vintage BMW Motorcycle Owners website under Forums. See below. On behalf of all R90S owners and aficionados, Thank you James!! Now More: Migration is starting to the forums! + Now More
See below from James Wonder. Here is more: I thought of using the R90sWorldnet name at the VBMWMO website instead of “The Incomparable R90S” but James suggested the name “R90S World”, which is great and pays homage to the the R90sWorldnet. So look for that name shortly. And the VBMWMO website needs technical upgrades for added security, and due to advancing technology. SO the VBMWMO club is paying for a big website upgrade which will have wonderful advantages, including making James Wonder’s job much easier. Vacuum measuring
? This is my go to gauge. I’ve had it for at least 40 years, but just had it rebuilt. It was put out by Chuck Wallus who use to make all sorts of BMW service tools. It is actually a Dwyer 15”-0”-15” Magnehelic. The action is very smooth and precise. Very satisfying to use. This type of gauge is often used in precision laboratory measurements and widely in the HVAC trades. Dead simple and accurate. The last carb balance tool you will need. Cylinder shorting is harder for me on both my twin plugged R90S and R100RT. Richard Chawes

Vacuum ports

Thanks all for the help. It turns out it is simple to do. The carbs have the correct hole already in the side and it goes almost all the way down to the pilot air passage. All you have to do is with a tiny drill (like #57) poke through the last mm or so. If you remove the pilot screw you can see daylight right through. The port is 6mm for the hose but steps up to 7mm for the press fit into the hole. Some locktite will probably help. Got some on order from Hermy’s senior (610 562 3155), not the son who runs the BMW/Triumph dealer. Richard Chawes

Dellorto vacuum ports.

Does anyone have instructions how to drill the carbs for vacuum ports. I can get the pieces but would be nice to know how deep, what size. I read one report the inner hole needs to be at an angle. Need to verify this. Looking forwards to great posts on new website. thanks, Richard Chawes

The new site IS UP!!!
11
After several long days of coding, hacking, and slowly figuring out what was what, I have gotten the R90S Worldnet up and archived under the forum software we use! I honestly thought it was going to take a few more days, but today was going my way! :-) Please take a look at the website at: http://test.vintagebmw.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=11 There are 51,977 messages in groups.io. I was able to move 51,971 messages over. 6 were simply bad. Some of the threading is not perfect, i.e. you may see duplicate subject titles. I am still trying to make that better as the main problem stems from the way email handles replies and some of them are simply not correct in the file from groups.io. Still working on that. If you are so inclined, the actual program I wrote is attached as well so you can check it out. I will likely keep tuning the conversion, but once I get a consensus that things are okay I will move it to the live server. ANY comments or thoughts are welcome!!! Best, James

Thank You James [R90SWORLDNET] The new site IS UP!!!
See below, thank you James. It is SO great to be able to preserve all the R90S information from dome 30 years of the R90SWorldnet and transfer it to the Forums at the Vintage BMW Motorcycle Owners, under The Incomparable R90S, is just wonderful. What a true icon the R90S is, thank you HannsA Muth and all R90S afficianodos everywhere. James Wonder’s IT expertise you see in action to preserve our R90sWorldnet, along with the other volunteers that help the Vintage BMW Motorcycle Owners club is how the Vintage BMW Motorcycle Owners operates so well. We have HUGE searchable content which retains contributions people make, pictures and all, unlike Facebook and other venues. Plus repair manuals, Snowbum’s and other web sites, etc. If you’d like to help out or if you have any suggestions to make it better please let me or James know. Transferring of emails to the forums
3
All, I just wanted to send an update that I am well on my way to creating a program to transfer all the emails from groups.io to the forums. This is something that many phpBB administrators/users have asked for, and have tried, but there is no way of doing it right now. When I am done with my program I will likely give the code to the phpBB community so others can use it. I am past 80% done, and working on the harder aspects of the loading/display right now. Once I think I am almost done I will send a link to the test site for everyone to check out before I move it to the live vintagebmw.org site. A question I would have is; there are 51,977 messages in the R90 Worldnet. I believe I should make a read-only forum on the vintagebmw.org site specifically for the archive of the Worldnet and leave the other R90S forum in place as the active one going forward. I think this would be cleaner and it would not preclude anyone from searching the WHOLE forum including the email from the world net and all the posts from the existing R90S forum on the vintage site now. Thoughts are welcome! Best, James
