I don't know if you noticed on the U106 board but Iain is asking for us to upload our updated VCF files from our BigY tests to the new Data Warehouse they have put together. This is only for people who have taken the BigY and received their results. I know some people just bought tests at the sale and don't have results yet and some people have only done STR testing or SNP Pack tests. So we're really talking about all of us who have had our BigY results back for a while and have now been updated to the new reference sequence (hg38 from Hg19). I have put together step by step directions of how to do this (with pictures too!) and it shouldn't be too difficult. I will add it to the Files section of our group. But if you find it is confusing or too technical reach out to me for help. We need all of our information back on the new U106 spreadsheet so Iain and the other U106 admins can continue their wonderful work for us. This means you might need to h elp your closest match so they make sure to get their data out there too. We will also have an added benefit that in time we will show correctly on Alex Williamson's Big Y Tree (used mostly now for the P312 groups) and those P312 groups will get the advantage of Iain's time estimations. We are brother clades and at one time shared a common ancestor so they are just taking the best pieces from each group and putting them all together. Let me know of any questions or concerns and I hope we can still be one of the largest subclades on the spreadsheet. Thanks. ? |

I found that I had been signed out of Yahoo and had to jump some hoops to get signed back in. That might be why you aren't getting emails. I guess you'll find out when you try to log in :) ChrisOn Thu, Jan 4, 2018 at 4:22 PM, Cynthia Sexton prosperity200220815@... [R1b-S6881] <R1b-S6881@...> wrote:

开云体育Chris,? Good to hear from you. For some reason I cannot get the U106 digest emails. They just stopped arriving mid November. Grrr. Can’t figure it out. I’ll log on tonight to read your directions and see if I can do it. Feeling pretty incompetent since I can’t get the emails. Yikes.? Thank you so much for keeping this up. You are the very best!!!! Re: Liptrap/Liptrot testing
Hi Jim, ?? Sometimes it's so frustrating when we hope to get good information from a person with our surname and then they prove to not even be in the same major haplogroup as us. That's very painful. I looked at the Liptrap surname group and your little cluster is probably all that is related to you in U106. If you are lucky enough to come across a Liptrap (or similar surname) with a DYS492 of 14 (they would have had to test to 67 STRs) then that would be the one to go after. If they have anything else there you probably should pass on trying to get them do SNP testing for you. ?? As for where our ancestors moved to or from, there are so many years that have passed that they could have started out almost anywhere and ended up almost anywhere. I'm fairly certain that my guys were in Lancashire at one point because the surname is a place name from there. But the downside is anyone living near there probably ended up with that surname and there would have been unrelated families living in the area so chasing the surname might not work out well for me. So far it hasn't. Hoping for a good year for us all and more positive results to come in the new year.On Tue, Dec 19, 2017 at 10:17 PM, 'Jim Liptrap' jim@... [R1b-S6881] <R1b-S6881@...> wrote:

Liptrap/Liptrot testing
开云体育OK… Well… I guess not... So now what? I found and tested both of the Liptrot “clans” – Bolton and Wigan: ???????
? And the DNA tests show a “most recent common ancestor” about 12 generations back.? That would be the William (1525) or perhaps his father – before Parish Registers, but enough to show they are related.? Actually, at Y-37 they are four steps, and have no other matches whatsoever.? Pretty clear.? And I saved $475 by waiting for the Y-37 result before ordering Big-Y. ? So it would appear that the names Liptrot and Liptrap converged, rather than diverged.? Probably neither of them coming from the German Liobtrut.? That was a guess by an etymologist in 1916, anyway, based on the sounds of the names, and maybe the fact that they were used interchangeably around the year 1600 by a family in London, and another in Worcestershire, although I don’t think the Parish Registers were accessible 100 years ago to show that. And a very Merry Christmas and Happy 2018 to everyone. |

Re: New file uploaded to R1b-S6881
Okay, I've added them to the tree in red since the result isn't from a BigY test. It will be the only way we can keep straight how people got on the tree. The file is in the files section now. Re: New file uploaded to R1b-S6881
Hi Chris,
I did 3 tests with my Warburton panel which covers A11378 and 6 SNPs unique to Eric Warburton. All 3 were positive for A15056 but negative for all Eric’s other singletons. I don’t know if you want to reflect this on your chart in some way. They were Stanley, Robert and David. Robert’s ancestors go back to circa 1500 in Edenfield, David’s to the early 1700s in Radcliffe, and Eric’s to Elton and/or Holcombe around 1800. I haven’t explored Stanley’s in detail but he has an ancestor Peter born in Holcombe around 1815. Interestingly both Stanley and Eric are now in Massachusetts. Re: New file uploaded to R1b-S6881
I have updated the tree file in our files section and added Tucker and Lee who have both tested positive for A11376. I have colored their names in red so we know that they have tested to this point from an SNP pack and that there might be more matching available if they were to take the BigY test. I haven't updated the S6881 Group file as it is based on BigY tests and we haven't had any new ones recently. Let me know if anyone has questions or comments. Thanks.
