Hello Region 11,?
As the Southern California fires continue to impact many of our members, please know that Region 11 is thinking of you.?We hope this message finds you well, safe, and together with your loved ones.?
Many of us have heard from members from almost every?chorus who have been evacuated. Some members have already returned home; others still cannot or even worse, have lost their homes. Still others are living under evacuation warnings, or are without power. Lastly, there are members who have not lost their?homes but are impacted by the loss of community, a church, a business or a landmark that they cherish.
The danger is not over; the winds will be intense again this week. There will be ongoing disruption for many beyond the extinguishing of the flames.??
I want to share some information about how you can support your Region 11 members.? ??
If you would like to donate money, goods or your time, please choose reputable organizations.? I'm sure many of you have seen lists of places to? donate.? I'm sharing this one from NBC News, which includes a vetted list of charities who are working directly with victims, but also some useful advice:
- Consider long term giving
- Be specific with your donation of goods
- Beware of scammers
Please be careful of misinformation and disinformation regarding the cause and management of the fire. Do not share information from social media that you have not vetted yourself.?
If you would like to make a general?offer of housing, donate goods or otherwise reach out to Region 11 members, I suggest that you do so via our Region 11 Facebook page.
If you know people who have lost their homes or suffered other losses, don't ask them for specific details of their loss. It's best to let them know you are there for them, grateful that they are safe and you are ready to help with whatever they need.?
Stay strong, Region 11.
Sincerely,
Lora Goodpasture
