[arizonaham] <arizonaham@...> Date: Sun, Dec 29, 2019, 3:04 PM Subject: [arizonaham] NEW 31' Telescoping Fiberglass pole for sale To: <arizonaham@...> 31 ft. Thick Tip Green Fiberglass Windsock Pole? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? $79.99 on I will sell for only $30.00 For HF Hams: Using the Jackite Fiberglass Poles as an Antenna < o> &v=c7IuIk63HJg&feature=emb_logo < o> &v=GMxZWvGzflE&feature=emb_logo The Jackite Thick Tip Fiberglass Windsock Poles were designed with quality and price in mind. Jackite changed the standard for fiberglass poles in three ways: 1) reinforced the butt section so it would not split 2) increased the wall thickness for less breakage, and most important 3) began to provide poles with a thicker tip. The Jackite Fiberglass Poles are telescoping like an antenna. You extend the pole out and twist the sections together to the desired length. For a shorter length pole, do not extend all the pole's sections. All fiberglass poles collapse to 46 inches. Jackite guarantees all its products for 90-days. But with the Jackite Fiberglass poles if you break a section of this pole you can replace the broken section for a small fee plus shipping, online, at the parts for poles page. Your Jackite Bird can be used to fly off this long pole like a windsock. For 30 years Jackite has designed bird kites/windsocks that beat their wings, banking on the air, soaring across the sky emulating a real bird in flight. Fly off a pole like a windsock and be amazed by the realistic flight. All birds made of tear resistant Tyvek and printed with fade resistant inks. We sell fiberglass telescoping poles and accessories. Jackite has been designing kites/windsocks for many years.? Marguerite has lead the company with her son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Charlotte Stankus.? Jackite designed the Dove of Peace for the International Olympic Committee for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia. Jackite has designed and sold products to Disney, Sea World, Red Cross, DuPont, Special Olympics, The Grammy Awards, The 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Canada and was featured on QVC for 4 years. Simple, not Simpler
By Dan Romanchik, KB6NU "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler" is a quote attributed to Albert Einstein (). Here's one way to apply this principle in amateur radio, specifically to code practice oscillators. A week ago, my friend, Paul emailed me: ¡°I am planning on teaching a two-hour introduction to Morse code to 14 girls ages 8 to 9 [Paul's granddaughter is a Girl Scout.]. I plan on having the girls build a code practice device. I need your help in selecting a low cost buzzer and battery holder. Please take a look around and see would you can find. I would like to limit the power to one or two AA batteries.¡± I replied that I'd be happy to help him with the demonstration, and offered the following advice: ¡°A while back, I built the QRPGuys¡¯ K7QO Code Practice Oscillator (). It uses a CR2032 coin battery. ¡°Unfortunately, they don¡¯t sell it anymore, but the assembly manual is still online (). The assembly manual doesn¡¯t call out specific parts, but here are some Amazon SKUs:
¡°Batteries are available at the dollar store for about 30 cents each. So, you could do the whole thing for less than $5 for sure, even with a printed circuit board, which I would suggest that we do. Heck, if you ask nicely, the QRPGuys might even give us the artwork, or even better, have some boards still in stock. Even if they have neither, you should be able to get the boards in plenty of time.¡± Later that day, Paul replied: Thanks, Dan, for the information and making yourself available to help. I am just going to use a buzzer, key, and battery. The buzzer has a frequency of 400 Hz. And this morning, he sent me this photo, noting, ¡°FYI. Also sounds great.¡± I think that this is as good an example of "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler" as there can be. I've volunteered to help Paul with his class. That will be fun, too. ============================= Dan Romanchik, KB6NU, is the author of the KB6NU amateur radio blog (KB6NU.Com), the ¡°No Nonsense¡± amateur radio license study guides (KB6NU.Com/study-guides/), and often appears on the ICQPodcast (). When he's not trying to keep things as simple as possible, but not simpler, he likes to build stuff and operate CW on the HF bands. ? |

I need my program back!
We hams like to limp along with favorite apps - what we used to call programs - even on our newer OS machines. Do you need older versions of your favorites? Maybe your old favorite went commercial and you want the original freeware version. I wrote this article a while back and I think some of you may benefit from it. Regards, Joe, N2QOJ |
International Space Station Visible Tonight
International Space Station Visible Tonight
Folks -?Good news!
Another opportunity to?spot?the International Space?Station?this evening as it passes over our area in Arizona. It will be a good pass and hopefully the clouds will be minimal.
Treat your family and friends to a viewing of the International Space?Station?tonight. I find that even the most non technical family member or friend get a kick out of seeing the?station?as it moves across the sky at 17,150?MPH?- that's 4.76 miles per second - and about 250 miles above us.
If you are an amateur radio operator, take the opportunity to relate how us hams can communicate directly with the ISS or through one of its transponders.
The ISS will be visible for 6 minutes and should be a good viewing and becomes visible directly from the West Northwest and disappears toward South Southeast.
Time: Thu Dec 12 6:11 PMVisible: 6 minMax Height: 49¡ãAppears: 10¡ã above WNW?(from 293¡ã)Disappears: 10¡ã above SSE?(toward 158¡ã) I've also attached an illustration that will help you determine how to use this information. You can watch and track the?station?in advance at this link: Remember, these times are based on a viewing site from the?Mesa?area (and within 50 miles). If you would like to generate times from your specific city or town, visit the link and follow the instructions. If your specific city or town isn¡¯t listed, pick the closest one. The space?station?is visible for at least a 50 mile (80 km) radius around each of the listed locations. If you are an amateur radio operator, listen in (or work) on these frequencies: Voice and SSTV Downlink: 145.80 (Worldwide) Voice Uplink: 144.49 for ITU Regions 2 and 3 VHF Packet Uplink and Downlink: 145.825 (Worldwide) - easiest to hear UHF Packet Uplink and Downlink: 437.550 UHF/VHF Repeater Uplink: 437.80 UHF/VHF Repeater Downlink: 145.80 Regards, Joe N2QOJ |
[GOTW] Gathering Of the Willing
---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Dave Martin (AC7FF) <ac7ff1@...> Date: Mon, Dec 9, 2019, 9:18 AM Subject: [GOTW] Gathering Of the Willing To: <[email protected]>
Greetings All,
EVQRP will be hosting another Gathering Of the Willing this coming Wednesday evening Dec.11th 17:00 hrs - 22:00 hrs.??We
meet at Desert Mountain Park at the Cottonwood Ramada. The Cottonwood
Ramada is located in the rear of the park across from the baseball
fields and just Southeast of the bathroom building. We will have several
different stations set up running different modes.?The GOTA station is
intended to be used by anyone from Technician to Amateur Extra as a way
for you to get on the air using different modes (Phone, CW, Digital)
with experienced operators. If you have a Technician license, then you
would use the EVQRP Club call of WS7OTA and if your a General or Amateur
Extra, you may use your own call sign or the club call sign, your
choice. You just have to be aware in what portion of the band you may
use if you are a General using your call sign.? If there is a mode that
you would like to see or operate from, please tell the operators of the
stations to show them to you. Our goal is to get you on the air and make
you comfortable with operating and learning about the various modes of
operations and show you the different options that are available to
you.?EVQRP is not intended to be a contest club but rather a way for new
hams to get hands on experience with actual HF equipment with various
modes and antennas. We also like to fellowship with each other and
believe this is where we really learn by sharing different experiences
in amateur radio. TRAINING CORNER:. The training session will be held the 3rd week of the GoTW.?These are not intended to last hours and we will also have some presenters come in and do a presentation from time to time.??Also, we will not be offering any testing session during the 3rd week of the GoTW to accommodate training.? LINKS TO FOLLOW: ? ?-
This is a news letter that is published monthly from participating
clubs. To read the back issues scroll down on the left hand side of the
screen and click on Back Issues. I hope to see all of you this coming Wednesday evening. Remember to follow us on Facebook, just search for East Valley QRP group on Facebook or follow us on GOTW Group.IO. If you know of someone that hasn't sign up to join the IO group, please give them either my email address or phone number. If anybody that holds a General license or higher would like to become a Volunteer Examiner please have them contact me. I'm always looking for VE's to help with testing sessions. Remember if you know anyone that is looking to upgrade or take the Technician test I always have my testing materials at every Park Event just have them send me an email or call me so I can make sure to have enough VE's on hand to test. I look forward to seeing all of you this coming Wednesday evening. Have a safe week and remember to stay radioactive and just get on the air. 73 de Dave AC7FF |

Electronic Experimenter Week at East Valley Amateur Radio
It's Electronic Experimenter Week at East Valley Amateur Radio !!! Most of us hams have experimented with electronics in some fashion - kit building, radio repair, home brewing, home electronics, etc.. And if you haven't, you should give it a try. It's fun and rewarding. These books will get you started: Electronics for Dummies by Gordon McComb Engineers Notebook by Forrest Mims Getting Started in Electronics by Forrest Mims Schematic Symbols, Device Packages, Design and Testing by Forrest Mims When you are comfortable with some of the basics, you might want to give these Forrest Mims Mini Notebook Topics a review to find some starter projects: 555 Timer IC Circuits: Basic Semiconductor Circuits: Communications Projects: Magnet and Magnet Sensor Projects: Op Amp IC Circuits: Optoelectronics Circuits: Sensor Projects: Solar Cell Projects: |

December QCECG Meeting yes/no?
Hello QCECG Members and Friends of QCECG, Regarding this month's meeting, originally scheduled for Thursday December 12th, it was my intent to cancel the meeting due to holiday preparations and just busy-time-of-year issues we all have. However, Dennis - KF7RYX - had a good suggestion. Why not make this meeting a show-and-tell? If you would like to show off your project - maybe a station go-box, maybe a power go-box, maybe a new radio, maybe a home brew item, or whatever else you may be interested in - then let me know asap. If the response is minimal, then we could use our kick-off 2020 meeting in January as show-and-tell. Let me know what you think as soon as you can. I need the feedback to make the final decision soon. Thank you, Joe, N2QOJ |
